Good morning,

who please can explain what does the term "Interner freier Anschluss 4" (internal free port 4)  on the figure attached to this message mean?

And, on which tab depicted by RWEverything can I find the corresponding information to this port 4? 

I want to find out why NVMe SSD's in the internal SSD slot is no longer recognized by the Bios.

Please share with us the results of the Provide the Intel® System Support Utility (Intel® SSU)  

  • Download the Intel SSU https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25293/Intel-System-Support-Utility-for-Windows
  • Open the application and select "Everything" click on "Scan" to see the system and device information. By default, Intel® SSU will take you to the "Summary View".  
  • Click on the menu where it says "Summary" to change to "Detailed View".  
  • To save your scan, click on "Next", then "Save".

Thank you for your patience. After checking the information provided, we noticed there are four partitions on your drive. To explain this internal port 4, this is because the RST detects the partitions. There is nothing wrong with the unit.

Additionally, the RST detects the amount of free SATA ports available but unfortunately, the OEM does not provide enough information to give more information about the computer specs.

For the other issue (SSD no longer recognized), that you will have to check with the OEM since this is BIOS related.

The HP 84ED motherboard has a 1xPCI Express x8 slot, however neither x2 nor x4 configuration as stated in the requirements of the treatise (see above).

As a consequence, should be the HP 84ED board suitable for the Optane technology or not?

There is nothing in the data, assertions or (IMHO, silly) citation that you have included that would allow us to determine whether or not this board supports the use of an Optane module. What you need to do is go into BIOS Setup and check whether the SATA Mode parameter supports an Optane setting. If it only supports AHCI and RAID, then you know that it doesn't support the use of an Optane module.

Thank you very much. I agree with you. The problem is not Optane related. Coud you please move this thread to the appropriate group of processor related issues?

I have investigated the issue further and finally found out that the UEFI Firmware is preventing not only the use of other than HP distributed NVMe SSDs but every NVMe SSD in the slot affected.

The initiating incident was that had replaced the original SSD in the slot by a cloned SSD with larger capacity on which unfortunately the Efi partition was missing and then tried to boot the notebook and got an error message due to the situation.

After that, every attempt to boot the notebook from a SSD in the slot in question failed with the same error message.

 

Consequently, I have installed the Windows 10 system on the existing HDD in the SATA port, which brought serious performances losses.

 

Nevertheless, the investigation of the machine revealed that the Uefi hardware initialization which runs at the beginning of the boot process does not assign the NVMe SSD to the correct bus position PCI Express x8 Bus #1 [J6B2], because the Graphics card NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti [HP] is assigned th this bus position now (see below).

For the Graphics card NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti [HP] is the PCI Express x16 slot appropriate because of is matching width (x16 and not x8).

As the Uefi hardware-initialization-procedure does not assign the NVMe SSD now, the NVMe SSD hardware cannot be found by any operating system.

 

The Hwinfo64 report delivers the following results for my HP Pavilion:

My HP Pavilion, on the other hand, does not have a PCI Express x4 slot, but it does have a PCI Express x8 slot. So what are you asking us to answer? It sounds like this HP system's BIOS is horribly, horribly screwed up and you need to be talking to them. No surprise; I consider both HP and Dell to be run by total slimebuckets and they doing nothing but rob their customers blind - including making them pay for support and the fixing of the bugs their BIOS (etc.) should have never had. 

There I go preaching again. Off my soapbox now (and again)...
