I have a home-built system running the DH77EB board, Ivy Bridge i7, 8GB RAM, WIndows 8 Release Preview, Radeon HD7870 and a Samsung 830SSD.

I saw that the most recent 11.6 version of the Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver now lists Windows 8 compatibility, the prior 11.4 version worked on Windows 8 but did not list Windows 8 compatibility. I went ahead and installed 11.6, but it does not appear to start - the icon in the system tray says Intel RST service is not running, and when I click on it to launch the app, nothing happens. I checked the error log and this is what I see:

Next, I try to manually start the service using the Task manager, but the service starts for only a millisecond before stopping again. Checking the Event Log, and I just see simply "The Intel(R) Rapid Storage Technology service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 2 time(s)."

Has anyone else had this issue with 11.6?

Intel Rapid Storage Technology 12.0.0.1083 at station drivers does seem to fix the problem, at least for me it seems to be working...

Morrissey Smith, there is a new Intel® Rapid Storage Technology version that you may want to try, however I would recommend you to check if there is a new BIOS available for your ASUS motherboard. Download Center

@ sylvia_intel No, still the assertion error since long long time ago.....only IRST 11.2 works for me. No Bios update either, last one for my mobo conteined RAID 11.2 precisely.

Resolution:

Uninstall KB2670838, the "evil update".

It is sneaky, and will reinstall with IE10 (I think) and IE11 for sure.

Many difficulties reported with it, ask Google.

Test:

Discovered the GUI wouldn't run, found that the evil update had been installed again, uninstalled it, reboot, and GUI works.

Maybe i shouldn't have posted on this thread cause the issue posted here i think is different from mine, i have a GUI Assertion error on Windows 7 64 bits, only IRST 11.2 has worked for me since year 2011.

i think the evil updated fix worked for you cause we have different problems here, if you want to check the KB2670838 update was released on February 26, 2013

The assertion issue is older (2011), even this thread is older than that microsoft patch (2012).

Why is caching very slow on windows 10 compared to windows 8 ?

will update drivers or utilities RST ?

harbor make sure you have the latest chipset driver installed in your system, management engine driver, also the latest BIOS version.

Since I had to read most of this thread to find the relevant info let me repeat it at the end

I just discovered the same old problem again on my older box running for years ?!?!

(I forgot that I added a iscsi drive on my NAS to the system. That safely killed the Intel Service without any usable error message!!!!)

MY WORKING SOLUTION:

DISABLE the microsoft iScsi driver so the intel RST service is running again.

 

Mostly you have to reboot for this

 

No need to mess around with the Marvel Drivers (only DVD connected as HD connected there was causing problems with the Intel Driver anyway)

mbd: GA X79-UD3

cpu: i7-3930K

gra: GTX680

 

ram: 4 x4GB

sys: Windows 7 x64 (SP1 build 7601) on Samsung SSD840

sto: Intel RST RAID5 on 4 x WD RED 2T

I would expect such a predictable mistake could be fixed sometime but it does not look like it!

 

Upgrading my Intel RST driver failed. I am running the Version 11.6.0.1030

The link pretty much applies to every single Intel RST version and any operating system. This is a setting needs to be changed in Windows* services. You can open Windows* services by pressing WinLogo key + r, type in services.msc, then press Enter. Look for the Intel Rapid Storage Technology service, double-click on it, and then follow steps on the website.
