Verify / Repair vs. SMART

RST 15.7.0.1014 Raid 1 on a 5 year old ASUS PC and BIOS, Windows 10

I have verify & repair set to run every night and fairly often I find in the morning that several repairs have been made.

But when I look at the SMART reports on the two drives involved, using gsmartcontrol, there are no disk errors of any sort.

If the disks are working without error, how are they getting out of sync?

(By the way, gsmartcontrol lets you get SMART reports on the drives in an array w/o having to go through gyrations to look at them individually.)

Please let me also know the model number of the motherboard/computer you have.

I regret to inform you that the chipset that comes in your computer supports up to Windows 8.1* so there are no drivers available for Windows 10*. The issue you are having with the computer is most likely a compatibility issue between the chipset and the operating system. What I can recommend is reinstalling any of the operating systems ASUS* has validated for your computer.

Thank you for looking into my problem. Going back from Win 10 to Win 8 is not an option for me. I wonder whether updating my BIOS would help at all. I'm reluctant to do it unless it would actually help - I fear doing the update might brick my PC. You indicated that it was obsolete hardware that was causing the problem so I wonder whether an updated BIOS would make any difference. Your opinion please.

The best option would be checking with ASUS* if they have or not included improvements for the SATA controller in newer BIOS versions. If they have not included any improvements for the SATA controller then updating the will not change anything. Thank you for the suggestion; I will pursue it. Is there any possibility that the errors requiring correction / verification are coming about because I'm using Western Digital Blue disks, not designed for RAID operation? Perhaps spinning at slightly different speeds or writing 'sloppily' or due to some other looser spec?

Hello bjprice,

 

 

Any hard drive should be able to work fine on a RAID volume. You may check with Western Digital if the firmware of the drives will be able to work fine or not when the drives are part of a RAID volume.
