NUC D54250WYKH NIC Driver for Windows 2008 R2

Has anyone had any success running Windows 2008 R2 on D54250WYKH? I am unable to get NIC driver to load. I know it is not an officially supported OS, but thought worth asking, could make a very nice light duty server. Any help is greatly appreciated.

The NUC model D54250WYKH supports Windows 7, 8 and Windows 8.1. I am afraid there are no drivers for win2008 server.

how about installing a 3rd party nic that IS supported by 2008 R2? i read that there is an extra pci-e slot for expansion!

Yes, the board comes with expansion capabilities:

If you are able to find compatible drivers for your 3rd party NIC card, I do not see any problems about that.

allan, great! so i can have an mSata SSD drive and a 3rd party NIC co-exist then? one of the cards can work in both slots, it would appear. can you advise on that? thanks!

also, i read on another thread here that someone was able to "trick" a Windows 8 driver to work in Windows 2012 server. all things being equal, can you offer any confirmation whether that will work for a Windows 7 driver on Windows 2008 server? the other guy said it works just fine how he did it!

I am afraid, I cannot offer a confirmation for this matter since this board is not compatible for Windows server operating systems.

UPDATE: I have great news! Yes, it can be done! Since Windows 8/2012 server are so loathed and many of us are die-hard 2008 server holdouts, I have come to the rescue. The hardware is the same for both 4 gen i3 and i5 versions of the NUC. The NIC is most important obviously, but the other drivers can also be installed, although they are just fluff to have for a server and not necessary. First, for a reference only, follow this procedure I linked below HOWEVER, choose the "Intel (R) Ethernet Connection 1218-LM" driver. The actual driver is the 1218-V but it is not listed for some reason but the LM has extra capability that will just be ignored. It works! (Did not try to install Pro-Set after this but assume it will work according to the procedure. VERY IMPORTANT---DO NOT INSTALL THE GRAPHICS DRIVER AS OUTLINED IN THE PROCEDURE!! It will act like it installed the Intel HD Graphics manager successfully but then the program will crash because its not written for server. And just clutter up your file system. Just install the GRAPHICS driver manually as I outline in next paragraph. Again, only if you want to have the actual driver installed and also cannot run headless, ie remoting in via VNC, TV, etc...

As for the other drivers, run setup file only for CHIPSET and INTEL ME. For AUDIO, GRAPHICS and USB3.0, I advise to not follow the procedure here and just choose the devices with the yellow exclamations, and choose UPDATE DRIVER-BROWSE to the driver file and let it install. Also, the two AUDIO listings under "Sound Video and Game Controllers" can also be updated to current drivers if you wish by also clicking on them and doing an UPDATE DRIVER-BROWSE to the folders "AUDIO" and "GRAPHICS" respectively to get both the Realtek onboard audio and the display audio for HDMI, again just fluff if you want "completeness." Lastly, the IR Receiver: this is the only "unknown device" left and since there is no driver or procedure I can use, I just disabled it. Again, not needed for a server.

ADDENDUM: its the "I218-LM" NIC driver not "1218-LM." 4AM here....ZZZZZZZZ.

ADDENDUM 2: decided to futz around and try to install the IR receiver driver. it installs but then says the driver failed to install. but just go to Device Manager and remove the still listed "unknown device." refresh devices. it wont come back. then look under "Human Interface Devices" and you will see the "Nuvoton SIO CIR Device Driver" listed. not sure if this means it is fully installed, but i see no issues. after numerous device refreshes all drivers are now installed with no Yellows! (For those OCD server admins, lol.)
