S2600CP4 and SLES 11 SP2 XEN - no joy

Hello All;

I have a S2600CP4 with an Intel RAID C600 Upgrade Key RKSATA8. The 2 500GB SATA hard drives are configured into a RAID1 mirror. BIOS 'AHCI Capable SATA Controller' is set to [RAID mode] with the 'AHCI Capable RAID Options' set to [INTEL (R) ESHT2 (LSI*). Using the 'Intel Deployment Assistant' V5.0, I installed SLES 11 SP2 x86_64, which installed and boots properly with a GNOME GUI. I have only 2 partitions, part1 is the SLES root and part2 is swap.

Now to make the system boot with SLES XEN. BIOS is set to have VT enabled. Using the SLES 'Software Managment' I installed XEN Virtuialization which gave an extra GRUB load menu item. If I select the XEN menu, SLES stops at a ' Could not find /dev/disk/by-id/scsi-36000805e01000000000-part1'

I've updated the lsi-megasr driver to v927 (the latest version). no joy.

I've updated the BIOS, BMC, FRU/SDR, ME to the latest version. no XEN joy but now the fans are quieter.

I've added the brokenmodules=ahci and brokenmodules=ahci, isci to the XEN boot options. no joy.

According to the SUSE YES Certification # 137867 the system works with SLES 11 SP2 with XEN.

Can anyone help or give a suggestion.

Thank you.

Download the latest http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=22135 ESRT2 driver for Linux. Follow the steps in the http://downloadmirror.intel.com/22135/eng/ESRT2_RHEL5-6_SLES10-11_v.15.00.0725.2012_Readme.txt Release Notes, section 3.1.3 for XEN installation.

Thank you Edward.

However even following the readme.txt section 3.1.3 for SLES11 on RAID, XEN install did not help.

I still receive ' Could not find /dev/disk/by-label/mainos'

I've tried to use by-id, by-label, by-uuid, by-path for a XEN boot but no joy.

The system boots to non-XEN just fine, which uses by-label. Use to have by-id before reinstall which worked for non-XEN.

Any more suggestions?

PS: how can I tell what system board? S2600CP, S2600CP2 or a S2600CP4? I need to ensure it is a S2600CP4. Sticker under the stencil of S2600CP states 'PBA E99552-507' and 'QSCP22001800'.

Yes it's S2600CP4. Did both sles11 driver and sles11-ext driver load successfully during installation?

Thanks for the system board info.

Yes the SLES 11 SP2 and the SLES 11 SP2 'lsi-megasr-kmp-15.00.0927.2012-1' was install during the installation.

I also tried by name (/dev/sda1). no joy.

Any more suggestions?

OK here is how I understand...

There are two drive diskette images in the driver package you need to load during installation:

1. megasr-15.00.0927.2012-1-sles11-sp2-x86_64.img. This is the normal SLES driver. Name of the driver is lsi-megasr-kmp-15.00.0927.2012-1_3.0.13-0.27.x86_64, which seems working properly.

2. megasr-15.00.0927.2012-1-sles11-ext-sp2-x86_64.img. This is the XEN driver. Name of the driver is lsi-megasr-kmp-xen-15.00.0927.2012-1_3.0.13-0.27.x86_64. Could you confirm if this one is also properly installed? .

OH!

Ca I just install the lsi-megasr-kmp-xen-15.00.0927.2012-1_3.0.13-0.27.x86_64 beside the lsi-megasr-kmp-15.00.0927.2012-1_3.0.13-0.27.x86_64?

And why wasn't it installed when the 'Intel Deployment Assistant' was used and the XEN host was chosen?

I installed the lsi-megasr-kmp-xen-15.00.0927.2012-1_3.0.13-0.27.x86_64 so both are listed in the non-XEN boot.

Now when I boot into XEN, the system take a loooong time to boot, over 30minites and still no logon screen. During the boot, this is displayed over and over again.

----

Uhhuh. NMI received for unknown reason 00 on CPU 0.

Do you have a strange power saving mode enabled?

Dazed and confused, but trying to continue

------

The BIOS 'Power and Performance' is set to Performance.

any suggestions?

Hello;

I was using the Enhanced Rapid Storage Technology II in the BIOS settings, the ERST2 hardware configurations and the lsi-megasr -kmp-xen SLES 11 SP2 driver to make this all work, which did not work. Looks like Intell needs to check the drivers for the ERST2 under linux.

I have now switched over to the regular Rapid Storage Technology in the BIOS settings, the RST hardware configuration and the iastor (ide) SLES 11 SP2 drivers. Now the system boots up fine in non-XEN (and faster) and XEN mode.
