Hello,
I have curious issue with brand new SR1695WBAC. Latest BIOS (S5500.86B.01.20.0048.041620101015). If I switch the SATA controller to AHCI mode, the system is able to boot only if the MBR of all HDD is zeroed. If I install Debian Linux, the system hangs in BIOS, in AHCI controller initialization.
It stays on this for 10+ minutes.
After zeroing disc (dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sda ...), the system boots again, but only until next OS installation.
Did someone seen this? Or is the motherboard defect?
Sincerely
Dan

That is strange and I can't say I have seen that one.
Your boot drive needs to be the first drive in the boot order.
if not it will try to boot to the drives with MBR in the order they are configured in BIOS set-up.
Also You photo shows you on BIOS 48. Latest BIOS is BIOS 60,

thank you for this reply, I also trusted Intel, that bios on this link is latest as stated:
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=19121&lang=eng&wapkw=%28SR1695WB%29 http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=19121&lang=eng&wapkw=%28SR1695WB%29
but I did found the BIOS 60 and I will try it.

Also upgrade to BIOS 60 and backplane firmware to 2.15 didn't help.
I have second same box with exact same behavior.
I am able to boot machine with SATA set to enhanced mode, but hotplug is supported only in AHCI mode.

First check HDD compatibility: http://serverconfigurator.intel.com/sctthol.aspx?search=Server+System+SR1695WBAC http://serverconfigurator.intel.com/sctthol.aspx?search=Server+System+SR1695WBAC
You may also try to enable ESRT2, which supports hotplug too.

Thank you for the reply.
Also my drives are WD1003FBYX, which is supported.
ESRT2 works. But it is not so comfortable as AHCI, becouse you have to flag drive as array member even when you are using mdadm raid.
