i3 540 graphics and S3420GPV

I thought this CPU (i3 540 3.07GHz) had HD graphics, but when I try to upgrade the drivers, it says I have a plain generic display adapter with no HD. I am using an S3420GP intel motherboard with 4 GB RAM and Window 7 64bit. Any ideas?

Hi willie83, it took me a while to find why this is happening.

This Intel® Server Board uses the SMI LynxEM4+ graphics controller instead of Intel® HD Graphics.

Drivers are available for the operating systems listed here: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=21299 https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=21299

Hi willie83, this processor includes Intel® HD Graphics.

I am adding the download links for the exe installer and the instructions for the manual installation method using the zip driver file.

Thanks for the response back Joe.

I have tried to load that driver manually, but the problem is in the device manager, it says I have a Standard VGA graphics adapter, and when I try to install the driver it won't even give me the option to choose that driver. Is there a set of motherboard drivers that I need to instal first so the Intel HD adapter will show up?

Also, if I try to run the driver directly, it says the "computer does not meet minimum requirements for installing the software".

I'm beginning to think this motherboard, Intel S3420GPV, doesn't support the core i3 integrated HD graphics. Can anyone confirm?

I have updated the BIOS to the latest version

Thanks Joe,

Am I right in thinking that I'm stuck with the generic video adapter if I use this motherboard and windows 7? The operating systems listed are Linux and Windows Server 03 and 08.

EDIT: I just downloaded the driver and see that the Widows Server package contains windows 7 drivers.

If you would like to move this to the server forum, I do have another question.

I have loaded the driver and it is working better than the generic, but is there any way to assign more RAM to the video adapter?

I currently only have a measly 8 MB dedicated to the video adapter.
