Can I Make Checkboxes Stay Checked?

I am trying to build an app where users go through Bible verses and memorize them as they go. And, to marked off which ones they have memorized they check a box.  How do I set it up so that the box remains checked even after they leave the app?

This will require the use of data storage to be used for configuring the settings for your UI elements when the application is opened again.
