I plugged my camera directly into one of my USB 3 ports. I tried the other port as well. I have windows 8.1 x64
In device manager, the camera looks ok but if I try to update the firmware, the tool says the camera is not connected. Also if I try to open any of the SDK apps, they just don't open and the device is not listed.
Any suggestions?

mmm, did you connect the camera before installing the SDK?
Try unplugging the camera, removing the camera device from the device manager, make sure you have the SDK properly installed, and then connect the camera.

So far it looks like the camera only works on specific intel models... I was able to test it a recent intel laptop and the firmware update worked, camera worked right away, a skype opened a test window. On my older ultrabook - no luck, on my dev AMD computer - no luck either.
In every case, the camera looks like it is installed correctly, all devices look fine in the device manager but with the older intel and my amd dev computer, when you try to open the camera it fails.
