Early demo submission optional or not ?

I'm an Indian engineering student and for the whole month of December, we have our semester finals. Not being from computer science background, I need a few weeks just to get started with the SDK. So, submitting an early demo would be impossible.
Does that mean I will be disqualified and won't be considered for final demo submission, or is it just for the people competing for the $1k prize on submitting the early demo ?

Early submission is just an extra prize.

If you want, you can only submit in the final submission, there isn't any requirement for you to submit anything in the early submission stage.
