Today we released version 3088 of the Intel XDK. This update only applies to the mainstream Intel XDK release and does not apply to the Intel XDK IoT Edition or Intel XDK Early Access.
In this release we added many new features that were previewed in the Intel XDK Early Access and have fixed multiple issues. The complete set of new features are detailed in the Intel XDK Release Notes.
Below is a summary of those new features:
- We no longer support CLI 4.1.2 builds. Projects that use CLI 4.1.2 MUST be updated.
- Added Cordova CLI 5.4.1 to the Intel XDK build system. See this FAQ for details.
- A new Certificate Management feature allows you to create or import Android certificate keystore files and iOS P12 distribution certificate files.
- The Build tab allows you to build your app for multiple targets with a single mouse click.
- Android and Android-Crosswalk options have been combined into a single target platform in the Build Settings section of the Projects tab.
- Crosswalk support in the Intel XDK is now based on the Crosswalk Webview plugin (AKA "Cordova 4" in Crosswalk docs).
- A new Publish tab has been added to assist you with creating and publishing application assets and information to a variety of Android stores.
- The Windows and Windows Phone build options have been expanded and significantly updated to include Windows 10 Universal Apps. Please use the CLI 5.4.1 build option for your Windows and Windows Phone builds.
- The built-in Brackets editor has been updated to version 1.6 and several new Brackets extensions have been added.
- Whitelist settings in the Build Settings section of the Projects tab have been updated.
- App Preview has been updated (to version 2.8.0). Check the respective stores to be sure you have the latest version.
- Updates to our project file format will require that all projects be "updated" before you can use them with this release.
This release also addresses the Google App Store warning regarding the use of older versions of Cordova-Android. You must migrate your app to our CLI 5.1.1 or CLI 5.4.1 build system to eliminate this warning and to be able to publish apps in the Google App Store after May 9, 2016. Our CLI 5.1.1 build system has been updated to address this issue (see this FAQ for specific details).
Important Note About Intel XDK Versions 2893 and Older
Beginning with our upcoming June 2016 release, versions of the Intel XDK released prior to March 2016 (2893 and older) will no longer be able to use the Build tab, the Test tab or App Preview. This change is necessary to improve the security and performance of our Intel XDK cloud-based build system. If you are currently running version 2893 or older, of the Intel XDK, please upgrade to version 3088 or newer as soon as possible!
Version 2893 will continue to work (without the CLI 4.1.2 build option) until our June release, but it (and older versions) will no longer function following our June 2016 release. We encourage you to move to our 3088 release as soon as possible, in preparation for that significant change in our Intel XDK cloud services.
Our automatic updater will notify existing Intel XDK users when the update is available, directly within the Intel XDK. The updates will be released to all users within 24 hours. If you would like the update sooner, you can download and install it directly from xdk.intel.com.

I tried the new Intel XDK build 3088 for my ios game. After build is successful with CLI 5.4.1
- Can install and run well on my ipad mini 3 ios 9.x
- Can't install on iphone 4 ios7.x .It keeps saying "Can't install at this time"
Then I tried build CLI 5.1.1 :
- Now it can be installed on iphone 4 ios7.x , But it is very slow.
Can you fix it for ios 7 can run with CLI 5.4.1 please ? I really want to try it if how fast it is and how it improve performance on ios. Thank you !
Otherwise : plugin Admob "https://github.com/cranberrygame/phonegap-plugin-ad-admob.git" and plugin Facebook Connect "https://github.com/Wizcorp/phonegap-facebook-plugin.git" can't be installed. Please fix @.@

I got this issue, after splash screen, the screen turns blank/white forever
I have downloaded the new version. I have build my app then install on my Samsung S5.
Please help.

On the 3088 version, i can't find app designer checkbox on Templates - Layout and User Interface.
This is the screenshot of v.3088
and this is the screenshot of the same tab in v.2807, there is "Use App Designer" checkbox below "Standard HTML5" dropdown
How can we use app designer for side menu app or other layout & UI templates? or is it moved to another part?

Are you trying to update your app to the Google store or the Apple store? Your Google certificate will continue to work, there is no developer version of your Android certificates and they do not expire.
Assuming you are updating your app to the Google store, you need to continue to use the same certificate you previously used to publish your app. If you used the Intel XDK to originally publish your app then your Android certificate is stored in your XDK account. You need to "convert" your old certificate to a new format that can be used by the 3088 release. Follow the instructions on this page to do this conversion > https://software.intel.com/en-us/xdk/docs/intel-xdk-certificate-management#view-create-import-android-certs and duplicated here:
Convert a Legacy Android Certificate
If you built this project for Android (or Crosswalk Android) with a previous release of Intel XDK, or have an existing Android certificate, you may see an existing legacy Android certificate listed. Such legacy certificates were automatically created by the Intel XDK build system for you. In this case, click the
button to the right of your legacy Android certificate to convert it to the Intel XDK format. For example:

We do not endorse any specific AdMob plugin. There are many available. See this document for some recommendations and check the list of AdMob plugins that are available in the Cordova plugin registry > http://cordova.apache.org/plugins/?q=admob. I think this one is related to the one you've been using, but I'm not sure, those plugins change rapidly, so they are very hard to keep track of.

The XDK does not compile your app into native code! Your app is an HTML5 web app that is interpreted by the HTML5 engine that resides on your device. The XDK simply packages your HTML5 web app into a format that can be submitted to stores and installed on devices, using the open-source Apache Cordova project. Updates to the XDK do not impact app performance, the webview used to run the app on the device and the techniques you use to write your app determine the performance of your app. Please see these articles for some background:

I know this is confusing, but there will be no change in the performance of your game on the iOS platforms, unless you use the WKWebView plugin, which provides access to an alternate high-performance webview on iOS 9 devices (but only iOS 9 devices). Likewise, you can replace the native webview on Android 4+ devices with the Crosswalk webview, to improve performance on those devices. Beyond that, the techniques you use to write your app determine the performance of your app, not the XDK. The iOS WKWebView plugin is limited to use on iOS 9 devices, this is not a limitation of the XDK, it is a limitation of that plugin, which is a product of the Apache Cordova project, it is not software that the XDK team or Intel created.
Building with CLI 5.4.1 will limit your app to installation on iOS 8 and 9, there is a bug in the UI that allows you to select lower valued numbers, but the build will be limited to installation on iOS 8 and iOS 9. This is also a limitation enforced by the Apache Cordova project, it is not something that the Intel XDK can change.
Regarding those plugins, both are third-party plugins and are also outside the control of Intel and the XDK. You likely need to update those plugins in order to find plugins that can be used with CLI 5.4.1.
- For the admob plugin, you probably need to use a later version of that plugin, or find another admob plugin. You can add the latest version of that plugin using the "third-party" plugin option in the plugin manager on the Projects tab, add as a "cordova registry" plugin and use the name "cordova-plugin-ad-admob".
- For the facebook plugin I recommend you change to the facebook4 plugin, which is a drop-in replacement for the old one. Also, using the same technique described above, using the name "cordova-plugin-facebook4".

The App Designer templates were removed from that collection of "Layout Templates" -- please use the blank templates to start your App Designer project, instead (remember to check the "Use App Designer" checkbox).
