Unable to install due to license problem

Can someone from Intel licensing please contact me? When I originally got access to Parallel Studio XE 2016 for Linux, I was able to download it and got a license key file. It installed and is working OK on the first machine I installed it on. When I tried to install it on a second machine, it said the license file wasn't valid. I found through the Intel website that I need to request another license key for the other system since it appears to be locked to a NIC (which is odd since I didn't provide that information to get the first license key). So I went to the registration center to request another license file and it said I didn't have any active products even though I got the software just last October. I tried exporting my existing license keys and the one I used to do the first install isn't listed. I tried to register the serial number but it says it has already been activated. I tried to submit a ticket via the Intel Premier Support but it won't go past step 1 since it doesn't find a product that I have support on. I think I'm in a catch-22 situation and clearly need some help.

Thanks,

Christopher

It appears that you have multiple accounts.  I will merge them and contact you via email once this is complete.

You should be set to login.  I've emailed your current login ID to you.  There appears to be something else preventing your access to Intel® Premier Support, I'm attempting to get that resolved.

I think we are making progress. Now I can at least see that I do have a valid license now in the registration center. Also, I can see my products listed in the premier support site.

Unfortunately, when installing on the second machine, I still can't install. I have the license file installed at <removed> and the environment variable INTEL_LICENSE_FILE=/root/intel/licenses was set before I ran the installer (just like I did on the first install). When the install runs, instead of saying it was activated OK (like the first install did), it prompts me to select an activation method. Putting in the serial number results in the error message The serial number you provided is not valid for this product and selecting Activate offline and specifying the path to the license file results in the error message The license file(s) you provided is not valid for this product. so I am still stuck. I did try downloading the license key again but I diffed it and it was the same as what I was using.

I removed your serial number from your post.  What is the exact package you downloaded to install?

Sorry, I didn't realize the serial number was embedded in the filename.

I downloaded parallel_studio_xe_2016_update1.tgz, full offline installer, which was labelled Intel® Parallel Studio XE Professional Edition for Fortran and C++ Linux* (all tools), Version 2016 (update 1), 11 Nov 2015. The product id was 2617. The download page showed that the license was valid.

On my workstation, I unpacked the tarball, created the ~/intel/licenses directory, copied the license key into it, set the INTEL_LICENSE_FILE environment variable to $HOME/intel/licenses, and ran the install. After it was done, I copied the ~/intel/licenses directory and the unpacked tarball to the second machine, set the INTEL_LICENSE_FILE file as before, and ran the install, which failed. Both machines are running the same OS version. The only obvious difference is that on my workstation I installed it as a normal user while on the second machine, I installed it as root.

I wouldn't expect the problem to be related to a root install.  Did you try only using the license file, rather than the entire directory, on the second system?  Can you send me your log files from the second system (either via private message or email)?

The only thing in the licenses directory was the license file and a sn.txt file I created.

Given your previous questions, I went and downloaded the tarball again. I copied that onto the second machine, unpacked it, and the install worked. I have no idea why that made a difference. I didn't get any errors when I unpacked the original tarball, which is what I would have expected if the file had become corrupted in between the installs. As a test, I went and copied the new tarball onto a third machine, copied the ~/intel/licenses directory and set the environment variable (as I had before), and tried the installation and it installed OK.

So we can close this thread.

Thanks for your help.
