"Invalid Serial Number" on transferred "Intel® Parallel Studio XE Composer Edition for C++ Windows"

I just had a license for "Intel® Parallel Studio XE Composer Edition for C++ Windows" transferred to me by a coworker. I received a few emails from Intel, including one with a license key. I used it for the installation of the latest 2015 update (the serial number/license was active for the build date for that version) for the program in question, and the installer completed without issues. Opening the license manager reveals that all of the products installed are not activated. When I try to use the serial product emailed to me by Intel, I receive the error: "Invalid Serial Number." Please advise.
