Hot swap (hot plugging) doesn't work

On my new Dell Precision T5860 I have configured the hard drives in JBOD mode in UEFI (F12) because I don't want to use RAID. I also set the SATA mode to AHCI/NVMe under F2 in the UEFI. Two SATA hard drives are installed in the two open FlexBays. Both drives are listed without errors in the disk management. Unfortunately, I can't separate the hard drives in the file explorer or via the taskbar. The latest updates for Windows and the firmware for the BIOS are installed.

Hi Wanninger,

Greetings for the day!

Thanks for contacting intel customer support, could you confirm which version of VROC keys you are using.

Since you have already configured JBOD mode, JBOD refers to a collection of disks in a computer system or array combined as one logical volume, to view the physical drives you may have to delete / reset the JBOD configuration and keep it as physical drives not as a logical drive.

However, to understand better we would request you to share us the JBOD configuration in your system as well to assist you further.

Thanks for choosing intel.

Regards

Jerome

Hello Jerome,

Thank you for your assistance. Here is the information regarding my current configuration:

When configuring the workstation, I selected a 'MegaRAID SAS 9540-8i 12 Gbit/s, PCIe, SATA/SAS, SW RAID controller.

1. I am using the MegaRAID SAS 9540-8i controller and have configured the drives in JBOD mode. I am not utilizing RAID, and I intend to use the drives as independent disks. 2. The Intel VROC Storage Management Application reports that no VROC controllers are detected in the system, which is expected as I am not using VROC or any RAID features. The MegaRAID controller is managing the drives in JBOD mode. 3. Please let me know if there are specific details or configurations you need to further diagnose the issue. If necessary, I can provide screenshots or a more detailed breakdown of the JBOD setup.

2. VROC Key: The physical VROC slot is empty. The following key is next to the slot: PQ2702 PQ3204

There is an NVMe SSD as a boot drive. In order to localize the error, I now only installed a 12TB SATA hard drive.

Thank you for your assistance.

Sincerely

Wanninger

Hi Wanninger,

Greetings !!

Thank you for writing to us. After reviewing the query, we would like to suggest to remove the JBOD Array and let the drive be connected as Individual drives. Only then inside the OS you will be able to configure/separate the drives. Just like RAID, JBOD also presents the drive as a combined unit. Let us says you have two 1TB Drives, then creating a JBOD array will present this as one 2TB drive to the OS, only difference is, it wont provide any redundancy which RAID array offers. As you already mentioned you do not require RAID to be created, we would suggest to remove this JBOD array and set up drives as individual ones.

Should you require any further assistance, please write back to us.

Regards,

Subhashish_Intel.
