Optane secondary drive acceleration for x299 platform

Is Intel planning to issue any driver updates in the future that offer secondary drive acceleration on the x299 platform? I recognize Optane is supported on x299 for boot drives but I really would like to be able to accelerate a secondary mechanical drive I use for RAW footage storage and access. I already have a fast M.2 boot drive so Optane doesn't add any benefit at this point.
