5300 AGN slow download, fast upload

Hi,

I installed a 5300 AGN on a dell d630 running Windows 8 and Linux, replacing the factory default card.

It works perfectly, except that when connected to a 300Mbit AP in N mode, it slows down compared to G mode.

In N mode I cannot get it download more than 12Mbps. It does upload though at a rate of 70Mbps.

If I switch the AP In G-only mode, it downloads and uploads at 30Mbps.

I tried 2 different APs (Fritz 7270, TP-Link 941ND).

In all tests, the APs and the laptop are side by side. The tests are performed to a local samba server. When connected via Gbps LAN, the same laptop downloads and uploads at 800Mbps.

Windows 8 and Linux have exactly the same behaviour.

Any ideas of what could be wrong?

There are two points you may want to notice here:

• The integration you are attempting is not officially supported since Intel Wireless Adapters are meant to be professionally installed by Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) technicians on certified systems only.

thanks for the help.

1. Yes I know. However dell is not supporting any kind of such upgrade. I am by myself here.

2. I just booted Windows 7. The tests give exactly the same results (12Mbps download, 70Mbps upload). I strongly believe it is not a problem of drivers. It happens in Linux too.

From your answer I guess the problem I have should not exist.

Is it possible to have such results if the antennas are not connected to the right pins?

It is possible since the issue appears to be hardware related.
