AX200, is WoWlan supported in Wifi Direct?

I'm working on a Linux embedded project, on the NXP imx8, and the AX200 WiFi module. Linux kernel is 5.4.24, using the backport ilwwifi  core-62 release.

I'm trying to get the WoWlan to work with in WiFi direct.  Can I assume the WoWlan feature will not work on the group owner (as it is an AP), but should it work on WiFi Direct clients?

Regards,

Hello @FlyBoyBart

Thank you for posting on the Intel® communities.

In order to understand better your environment and check this request further, could you please provide us with the following details?

1- Linux OS version/ distribution, or provide the output of this terminal command: $ hostnamectl

2- When you said "embedded project, on the NXP imx8", are you talking about a project using "Arm* Cortex* Processors"? Could you please elaborate more on the project details and the hardware involved? What is the model of the system/motherboard?

3- Is the Intel® Wi-Fi 6 AX200 (Gig+) the original wireless adapter that came pre-installed on the system/motherboard? or did you integrate it on the system? If you integrated the wireless card, is this the basic version sold to Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) or did you buy the "Desktop Kit" version?

4- Do you get any error messages when you try to configure WoWlan (Wake on Wireless LAN)?

Best regards,

Hi Andrew,

Sorry for the late reply.  Yes, indeed we are still searching for an answer on this question.

To update you the information you requested:

We are using the IMX8M mini, which is integrated on a SOM we bought from Compulab (https://www.compulab.com/products/computer-on-modules/ucm-imx8m-mini-nxp-i-mx-8m-mini-som-system-on-module-computer/).

Some info from the syslog on system and build info:

[ 0.000000] Linux version 5.4.24 (bartt@bartt-VirtualBox) (gcc version 10.2.1 20201103 (GNU Toolchain for the A-profile Architecture 10.2-2020.11 (arm-10.16))) #10 SMP PREEMPT Tue Nov 16 13:59:18 CET 2021
[ 0.000000] Machine model: CompuLab UCM i.MX8MM board

The Linux distro is created with Buildroot version 2021.02.07.  The kernel sources are fetched from git://source.codeaurora.org/external/imx/linux-imx.git.  The iwlwifi driver sources are fetched from iwlwifi-backport, version core-62.

The FW for the AX200 module is CC-C0-63, as seen in the syslog:

[ 4.680468] iwlwifi 0000:01:00.0: TLV_FW_FSEQ_VERSION: FSEQ Version: 89.3.35.37
[ 4.689139] iwlwifi 0000:01:00.0: loaded firmware version 63.c04f3485.0 cc-a0-63.ucode op_mode iwlmvm

The AX200 module installed on the board was sourced separately from the Compulab SOM and installed by us.  I don't know if the module bought is the OEM version of the Desktop version.  The model number is AX200NGW.  Some extra info in the picture attached.

We are trying to implement Wakeup from suspend when the module is only using WiFi direct (not associated to a WiFi AP).

Questions:

1. Is wakeup supported in WiFi Direct at all?

2. Is wakeup supported in WiFi Direct as being the group owner?

3. Is wakeup supported in WiFi Direct client (being associated to a group owner)

Hello FlyBoyBart

In regards to this request, we can say that WoWlan is supported by our wireless cards, but can't refer to Wi-Fi direct as that is directly associated with the operating system (OS); further questions about Wi-Fi Direct should be addressed by the Distro and/or computer manufacturer (OEM) respectively.

At this point, our recommendation is to review this further with your OEM for more details and support.

Hi Andrew,

thanks for the update.

So that would be a question for the iwlwifi  (Intel Wireless Linux WiFi) kernel driver development team, right?

Hello FlyBoyBart

In regards to your question, we would like to inform you that we do not create the Linux drivers for Intel® adapters, therefore, you should contact the specific kernel driver development team or search for assistance in their forums. The website where users can download the drivers is not an Intel support page.

Having said that, we will proceed to close this thread now. Thank you for your understanding.
