BSOD Caused by Advanced-N 6235- Driver 15.16.0.2+Win 8.1

HW: Samsung ATIV Book 4 NP470R5E-K01UB running windows 8.1 64 bit

Driver: Intel(R) Centrino(R) Advanced-N 6235- Driver version 15.16.0.2 (latest)

Whenever I attempt to connect to wifi I BSOD with error "kmode_exception_not_handled (Netwew01.sys)"

On Mon 5/18/2015 4:57:07 PM GMT your computer crashed

crash dump file: C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\051815-34312-01.dmp

This was probably caused by the following module: http://www.google.com/search?q=netwew01.sys netwew01.sys (NETwew01+0x1703E9)

Bugcheck code: 0x1E (0xFFFFFFFFC0000094, 0xFFFFF8005C3C73E9, 0x0, 0x0)

Error: http://www.google.com/search?q=MSDN+bugcheck+KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED

file path: C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\netwew01.sys

product: http://www.google.com/search?q=Intel%C2%AE%20Wireless%20WiFi%20Link%20Adapter Intel® Wireless WiFi Link Adapter

company: http://www.google.com/search?q=Intel%20Corporation Intel Corporation

description: Intel® Wireless WiFi Link Driver

Bug check description: This indicates that a kernel-mode program generated an exception which the error handler did not catch.

This appears to be a typical software driver bug and is not likely to be caused by a hardware problem.

A third party driver was identified as the probable root cause of this system error. It is suggested you look for an update for the following driver: netwew01.sys (Intel® Wireless WiFi Link Driver, Intel Corporation).

Google query: http://www.google.com/search?q=netwew01.sys+Intel%20Corporation+KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED Intel Corporation KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED

The problem seems somewhat similar to this issue, except I'm not dealing with a WiFi hotspot, but with any connection to a wireless network.

Re: Bug report: Advanced-N 6230- Driver 15.3.50.2 + Win 8">

So what are my options at this point? All signs seem to point to the wireless adapter driver, but downloading new versions of the driver doesn't seem to help. Previous threads on the issue seem to indicate that enabling FIPS might help, but I'm not sure how to do that on Win 8.1.

I can post one of the .dmp files if that would help.

Hello Daniel_Liddle,

Make sure you have any relevant Windows updates for your system.

Please follow this instructions to get a clean installation of the Wireless adapter driver:

Note: We strongly advise you to obtain the wireless adapter driver from http://www.samsung.com/us/support/downloads Samsung Download Center as first option. If the OEM driver does not work fine, repeat the process using the Intel generic version from the link below.

- Download and save https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/24656/Intel-PROSet-Wireless-Software-for-Windows-8-1- Intel® PROSet/Wireless Software for Windows 8.1* Version 17.14.0. File name: Wireless_17.14.0_e164.exe

- Go to Control Panel, Programs and Features and Uninstall "Intel® PROSet/Wireless Software", *If it is installed.

- In Control Panel, Device Manager, Network Adapters, right click on the Intel® Centrino® Advanced-N 6235 and Uninstall it, make sure you mark the option to "Delete the driver software for this device".

- Reboot the PC or scan for hardware changes, check device manager and if an older driver is detected and installed, repeat the actions to uninstall and delete it as well. Repeat this process until the OS does not allow deleting the driver, or until the controller shows as Unknown Device.

- Install the Intel® Wireless driver dowloaded before. During the first steps of PROSet/Wireless installation, make sure to customize the installation and install all the 3 driver components.

If the issue persists, you can try enabling FIPS, the process to do this for a wireless connection is very similar to Windows 7. You can check the steps in this forum with a similar issue:
