Intel AX1675i (211NGW) - 6GHz disabled (part 2)

This is a re-post, as issue is still present on a lot of machines. Dear Intel, I have an Intel AX1675i (211NGW) in my laptop (Lenovo Legion S7) , but I am unable to see any 6Ghz network. It seems like 6Ghz is intentionally DISABLED as per Intel's Location-Aware Regulatory (LAR) database. Both Windows and Linux drivers show 6Ghz as disabled. The Killer Wifi Analyzer also shows empty on the 6Ghz spectrum... Ubuntu output: Frequencies: * 5955 MHz [1] (disabled) * 5975 MHz [5] (disabled) * 5995 MHz [9] (disabled) * 6015 MHz [13] (disabled) * 6035 MHz [17] (disabled) * 6055 MHz [21] (disabled) * 6075 MHz [25] (disabled) * 6095 MHz [29] (disabled) * 6115 MHz [33] (disabled) * 6135 MHz [37] (disabled) * 6155 MHz [41] (disabled) * 6175 MHz [45] (disabled) * 6195 MHz [49] (disabled) * 6215 MHz [53] (disabled) * 6235 MHz [57] (disabled) * 6255 MHz [61] (disabled) * 6275 MHz [65] (disabled) * 6295 MHz [69] (disabled) * 6315 MHz [73] (disabled) * 6335 MHz [77] (disabled) * 6355 MHz [81] (disabled) * 6375 MHz [85] (disabled) * 6395 MHz [89] (disabled) * 6415 MHz [93] (disabled) * 6435 MHz [97] (disabled) * 6455 MHz [101] (disabled) * 6475 MHz [105] (disabled) * 6495 MHz [109] (disabled) * 6515 MHz [113] (disabled) * 6535 MHz [117] (disabled) * 6555 MHz [121] (disabled) * 6575 MHz [125] (disabled) * 6595 MHz [129] (disabled) * 6615 MHz [133] (disabled) * 6635 MHz [137] (disabled) * 6655 MHz [141] (disabled) * 6675 MHz [145] (disabled) * 6695 MHz [149] (disabled) * 6715 MHz [153] (disabled) * 6735 MHz [157] (disabled) * 6755 MHz [161] (disabled) * 6775 MHz [165] (disabled) * 6795 MHz [169] (disabled) * 6815 MHz [173] (disabled) * 6835 MHz [177] (disabled) * 6855 MHz [181] (disabled) * 6875 MHz [185] (disabled) * 6895 MHz [189] (disabled) * 6915 MHz [193] (disabled) * 6935 MHz [197] (disabled) * 6955 MHz [201] (disabled) * 6975 MHz [205] (disabled) * 6995 MHz [209] (disabled) * 7015 MHz [213] (disabled) * 7035 MHz [217] (disabled) * 7055 MHz [221] (disabled) * 7075 MHz [225] (disabled) * 7095 MHz [229] (disabled) * 7115 MHz [233] (disabled) Seems like the firmware is intentionally disabling those channels if it sees wifi AP beacon with specific country code. I'm based in EU and I tried Germany, US and others, but I'm still unable to see 6Ghz networks. As of the latest driver v22.190.0.4 this is still NOT WORKING. When is this going to be fixed?

Hello ToTo9,

Thank you for posting on the Intel️® communities. We will try our best to solve the issue you are experiencing.

To have a better understanding of your issue, please provide me with the following:

  • When did it start to happen?
  • Are you having issues with Bluetooth?
  • What is the model of your laptop?
  • You mentioend that you tried driver v22.190.0.4. Have you checked if the issue persists when using the OEM drivers?
  • What is the band and model name of the routers/APs you have tried?
  • Is this the original adapter that came pre-installed in your system, or have you changed/installed a new adapter recently?

Best regards,

Hello Jean,

1. Wifi 6E (6Ghz) has never been working on this machine.

2. No issues with bluetooth, it's working great.

3. The exact model is Lenovo Legion S7 16IAH7 - Type 82TF

4. Yes, I tried the OEM driver (Intel_WLAN_22.160.0.3_Realtek_WLAN_6001.10.350.300_6001.15.123.0_6001.16.113.301)

I also tried the latest from Intel and it's still not working. The feature is disabled.

5. I am using Ubiquiti Access Point U6 Enterprise. Wifi is working great at 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz. Only 6Ghz is not enabled. The Killer Wifi Analyzer also shows empty on the 6Ghz spectrum.
It's worth mentioning that my Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra is connecting to the 6Ghz SSID and works without any issues on the same access point.

6. This is the original wifi adapter my system came with, and it is even advertised as Wifi 6E capable laptop. But reading all the other topics for the same model card in the intel community it seems like the issue originates from the Intel driver itself.

Seems like the firmware is intentionally disabling those channels if it sees wifi AP beacon with specific country code (as per Intel's Location-Aware Regulatory (LAR) database). I'm based in Bulgaria (EU) and Wifi 6E is officially supported as part of all european regulations.

Let me know how to proceed troubleshooting.

Hello Jean,

I was not expecting this answer from Intel. It's an easy way to transfer responsibility...

Hello ToTo9,

Thanks for your response.

It is important to mention that on the product page provided by Lenovo, there is a message stating the following:

"6GHz WiFi 6E operation is dependent on the support of the operating system, routers/APs/gateways that support WiFi 6E, along with the regional regulatory certifications and spectrum allocation."

The best thing to do with your problem is to contact Lenovo support to confirm if your system model has any hardware or software limitations for 6GHz WiFi.
