Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6230 very slow and unstable connection using bluetooth

Hi, before posting this i went through a few threads on this argument, but i couldn't find any solution.

I own a Dell XPS 17 (l702x) with an Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6230 (drivers 15.7.0.3), since i installed Windows 8 i had sporadic disconnections and other incomprehensible issues, but the main one started when i recently bought a pair of bluetooth headphones.

After connecting the headset, the Wi-Fi connection becomes unstable and really slow, sometimes i can't even connect to the router, and these problems last even after disconnecting the headset. This is really annoying.

Today, after contacting the manufacturer, i did a fresh Windows 7 install (with the latest driver from intel website) on a different partition.

I tried then to surf the web and using the headset, the result was a stable connection and an "acceptable" download speed when compared to win8. I didn't stress it though.

I'm not sure this is completely a hw fault.

Since my main OS is windows 8, any help would be much appreciated.

If you need more informations i'm available.

P.S. I own a 2.4Ghz router 802.11n

P.P.S. Sometimes a "quick fix" for the issue is to reboot a few times after disabling the bluetooth device, and leave it disabled.

Hello Rolands,

Based on the wireless adapter that your system has, we found that the last drivers released for this using is the version 15.8.0 for Windows* 8 which compared to the version previously installed is more recent.

Please access the following link to get the latest drivers for your adapter:

Also, you may want to check the following articles to troubleshoot the problem you are having:

If the problem persists we would suggest you to contact your laptop manufacturer as you may have a hardware issue as well.

Hi Freddy, thanks for the answer.

The drivers you pointed me to, are the ones i alredy installed (15.7.0.3). Looks like 15.8.0 refers to the version of Intel's additional software.

I was able to fix only the bluetooth headset issue by buying a Dual Band router (and connecting to the 5Ghz network), but i'm still encountering stability and other issues (unrelated to bluetooth).

In particular i noticed that after encoutering some issues, Intel's "Manual Diagnostics Tool" reports the Intel's wireless drivers as missing; i can fix that by reinstalling Intel's drivers and rebooting but it's annoying.

I tried again contacting DELL, but since my laptop shipped with Windows 7, they are giving me a hard time proving this is a hardware fault.

So, if you run this manual diagnostic tool in Windows* 7 it comes OK?

Is this Windows* 8 an upgrade or clean installation? I would recommend a clean installation if it was not already done.

You may also try uninstalling the Intel® wireless driver from device manager and reboot. There is no need to remove the software so just keep the box unchecked.

Additionally, the following commands may be useful to reset TCP/IP stack in Windows*.

Open cmd as administrator and run the commands below, then restart the computer:

  • Netsh int ip reset

  • Netsh winsock reset

Yes everything was ok under windows 7. Windows 8 was a clean install, and i'd alredy tried:

  • removing the drivers and reinstalling
  • removing the drivers and keeping windows default ones

The only escape i found was to try Windows 8.1 Release Preview, and it went a lot better.

Now that Windows 8.1 final is out, i installed it (clean install) and i'm having problems, again.

Each time the computer is back from hibernation/sleep state, i can't connect to my (5Ghz) network, thus i usually disable and renable the Wireless Device to fix it.

Tired of the problems, i installed the latest version of Intel's Wireless Drivers 15.9.0.5, and now not only the problem are still there, but disabling and renabling the Wirelss Device doesn't help anymore.

I should add that in this situation (with the new drivers) while the connection to my 5Ghz network fails, the one to my 2.4Ghz network (that i usually never use) works.

Unfortunately this driver only made it worse.

Now when i reboot i can't connect to any network, even the 2.4Ghz. Disabling and reenabling the network card works, but it's not a real fix.

What is the status of the wireless driver at the moment the issue occurs?

Please verify if you get events with the IDs 5007 and 5055 in the Windows* Event Viewer (Control Panel, Administrative Tools).

Where do i check the status of the wireless driver?

About the error IDs, i can't find any of these errors in my event viewer (i made a filter to check).

Anyway i'll summarize what i know so far: the problem always happens after the computer is back from hybernation, and sometimes when it's back from suspension.

  • If the computer power mode is set as "High Performances" there is no way to connect to any network.
  • If the computer is set as "Balanced" i'm not able to connect to my 5Ghz network, but sometimes i'm able to connect to my 2.4Ghz network.
  • If the computer is set as "Balanced" and i use Windows "Problem Solving" tool (it just disables and re-enables the adapter), everything works normally.

And this is what i always have to do to use the adapter.

This is what happens with the latest driver version for my adapter: 15.11.0.7

This issue seems to go beyond our ability to reinstall drivers or change settings since it is affecting both wireless bands. I suggest you contacting your nearest Intel® support team for further assistance:
