Missing file : Wifi.msi when installing driver update

Hi

I'm trying to install the new 16 drivers to fix the intermittent error on Windows 8, the installation fails part way through saying it can't read from c:\windows\installer\wifi.msi - a file which doesn't exist. Anyone got any ideas?

Ok, I found a permanent solution for this problem. First you have to download the compressed version of the Proset (the latest one is the Wireless_16.5.3_e164.zip AFAIC) AND NOT the executable one. Use Winrar or 7-Zip and find the files wifi.msi and wifi1.cab, extract them to the folder C:\WINDOWS\INSTALLER and you're all done. Now you can install/uninstall/upgrade without any problem. Let me know if this solution works for you!

I have the same problems (6205 adapter, Win 8.1 Professional, 64bit) with both versions 16.6 and 16.7 of the Intel software. There seem to be no alternative ZIP packages available, so the previously described workaround doesn't work either

I am having similar problems to Edwin. I have W8.1_64bit. Consequently, while on the phone with Dell Tech Support, the Tech uninstalled the PROSet Wireless Bluetooth driver (the Intel posted driver is newer than the Dell driver on support.dell.com), and now I have a dll Error when my machine boots, and I have to manually connect my wifi connection each time I boot or restart.

In the Device Manager, I manually updated my Intel network and chipset drivers, but I still do not have the Intel Bluetooth driver, nor can I either uninstall the PROSet Wireless (v 16.1.5) or install PROSet v 16.7.

I was able to download the 16.7 executable with drivers only, and installed without any error messages.

Does anyone have a link to the PROSet v 16.7 zip file so I can try to manually copy the wifi.msi and .wifi.cab files as Grinddude posted?

I've spent all day with Dell Tech and (surprise!) they are stumped.

The problem continues to exist with the latest (16.11.0) software

I found a workaround:

  • After you experience the error do NOT exit the installer
  • Search the system (C:) disk for the file "wifi.msi" - I found mine in the temporary directory "C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Temp\sef5B44.tmp\data"
  • Copy ALL the files in this directory to "c:\Windows\installer" (this is a hidden system directory, so you need administrator rights to copy anything into it). Tje it's the files in the "\data" directory that need to be moved across, and not root of the temporary directory.
  • Exit the original installer (this will delete the earlier temporary directory) and start the installation again

Everything installed for me perfectly, the system rebooted and seems to be fine.
