Sporadic but recurring connection dropouts on an Intel 6235 wireless adapter

Dear all,

I have the same issues of intermittent sudden connection dropouts as reported by others with the Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6235 Wifi adapter and the Intel Proset 15.x drivers!

My system is a brandnew desktop computer with an Intel i7 3770 Quad-Core CPU, an Intel Z77 chipset, an Asrock Z77E-ITX mainboard, 16 GB of RAM, and Windows 7 64-bit.

Previously, I already encountered the issue with this adapter's predecessor, the Intel Centrino 6230 and only managed to resolve it by going back to an older driver version. If my memory is correct, the Intel Proset 14.x version range worked flawlessly, but the 15.x drivers lead to the dropouts (I always use 64-bit drivers).

These can occur randomly after 5 or after 50 minutes. The adapter suddenly disconnects and won't reconnect to the wireless network unless it is reset. The wireless router itself is fine as there are over a dozen devices from all types of brands that connect regularly to it without any problem at all.

The fact that the problem occurs on two different cards (6230 and 6235) leads me to believe that there is a driver problem.

On the 6235, going back to a 14.x driver does not seem to be an option on the table, because the device seems to be only supported by 15.x versions. I already tried going back from the recent 15.2 version to the previous 15.1.1 (after uninstalling through the device manager), but the problem still persists. Now I just went back to 15.1.0 and it's been ok so far, but i'm not very optimistic.

I have tried different changes in the driver settings but with no success. The problem persists!

I'd be thankful for a solution.

Best regards,

Steve

I insist,

For me, on Windows 8.1, after upgrade, all went to hell.

Then, after a manual driver downgrade, all is working without drops, Wireless and Bluetooth Mouse.

Dell XPS L502x

Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6230

Wi-Fi Driver: 15.2.0.19, 03-06-2012

Bluetooth Driver: 2.5.21.40054, 04-07-2012

Both Drivers provided on Dell Website (Official for Windows 8 on this model).

I strongly suggest to you to download and try by yourself. You can extract the .EXE and Run Setup or install manually on the Device Manager.

I have two clients (in separate physical locations) with Lenovo Helix units running Windows 8 that have the 6235 Chipset.

Both Helix Units display the symptoms described in this post. I've updated the drivers and that has reduced the frequency of the issues, but the issues still occur.

The Bluetooth and WiDi are totally unreliable.

Dropped Bluetooth Connections after an unpredictable amount of time... turning off ALL RADIOS (airplane mode) and turning them back on fixes this without a restart. Totally unacceptable.WiDi refuses to find any adapters when the Helix is revived from sleep ... reboot fixes this issue...Bluetooth doesn't always work after sleeping... without a restart. The BIOS updates and Intel driver updates in the last three months have helped, but the problems are not completely resolved.Having your bluetooth presentation remote (or cell phone) connection fail in the middle of a presentation to clients makes customers wary of using this device for day to day operations.

If you have bleeding edge / debug drivers to test, please let me know -- I want to resolve this issue for my customers.

So Intel has the time to go in and erase Eric's last name and email address ^^^^^ up there but doesn't have the time to update all the Centrino 6235 users of a time for a resolution? Well played Intel, well played.

Well it has been over 1 year so obviously they must want more time to screw around with us.

New Windows 8.1 drivers are out - 2 days without a disconnect although I still don't hold out much hope!

Any more updates Byron? I have attempted to install the drivers several times and always error out on Win8.1, even after uninstalling and wiping everything out of the registry.

Also as always no communication from Intel about the new release!

I don't have the same wireless adapter, so this may not apply, but having an Intel AC 7260 wireless adapter installed in my Dell XPS 12, I was also experiencing frequent network drops, every hour to a couple of hours ever since installing Windows 8.1. Like you, I tried just about everything that was listed here as possible solutions, including installing different drivers, but nothing I tried worked. Invariably, I would get a "No Internet connection" message and I would have to restart the adapter to get it going again.

After weeks of dealing with this issue, I finally broke down and decided to replace my old 2.4 GHz band wireless N router with a new dual band AC router just to see if anything would change, and amazingly, I have not experienced a single network drop since! The increased network speeds I'm getting now is certainly nice, but it does not compare to the relief I now have knowing that I now have a solid, reliable connection without having to worry about it randomly going down at any time!

Now I'm certainly not suggesting that everyone should rush out and buy a new router, and am convinced it's still a huge problem that Intel needs to fix as soon as possible, but if you are tired of dealing with this issue on a constant basis, it may well be worth your time to investigate this as another option to try. Good luck!

I just bought a NUC 54250WYK and the Intel Centrino 6235 Advanced-N and after installing Windows 7 x64 and the drivers from Intel's webpage it didnt take me many minutes before internet stopped working. It even made windows hang when i wanted to disable/enable the card. So i went to google only to find out this wonderful forum. Its amazing after this long and so many profe Intel hasnt done anything about this deal breaking problem.

I tried the tips and disabled the "802.11n mode" from the Advanced menu for the card and the network seems more stable, no hang after almost one hours so that seems to be the only thing that works this far,

I use the latest drivers from Intels page:

If you have Windows 7 64-Bit:

DRIVERS ONLY: Wireless_16.6.0_Ds64.exe

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?ProductID=3502&DwnldID=23391&lang=eng&iid=dc_rss https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?ProductID=3502&DwnldID=23391&lang=eng&iid=dc_rss

I wish i knew this earlier and could get another card :/

Anyone can recommend something else that works without this much hassle?

Yep, I've actually reported on this resolution for the 7260 card, and likely the others.

Though, I don't think it matters what router is used, simply a working one. I set up a 2 year old router as an access point, hooking it up to the problem router. Anyway, folks can see my thread here on it.

I also bought Intel Centrino 6205 for my father and its funny how the same exact drivers are rock solid with that chipset!!! This tells me the problem is hardware rather then software, i actually went ahead and ordered the same (6205) now, shame i did not find any alternative to Intel or i would not pay for Intel thanks to this bad support. So if you can effort the small cost i would for sure buy the 6205 model, it dont have Bluetooth but i wasnt going to use that allot anyway so for me its not a big deal.

I am having this problem as well since upgrading to Windows 8.1 and now i can't roll back to microsoft 14.8.8.75 driver.

I tried to manually install the 14.8.8.75 driver from windows 8 into windows 8.1, but is unable to do so due to unsigned driver.

Why is it the Microsoft 14.8.8.75 driver is able to work in windows 8 but the Intel driver keeps dropping connection?

I hope Intel is aware and doing something about this problem.

Figured I'd share that Intel will reimburse everyone that is suffering from Centrino Wifi Card issues, should it seriously have taken a whole year?

Hello Mr. xxxxxxx:

Our engineers have been working hard on fixing many issues related to the Intel Wireless Network Card. Although we were able to fix many customers' issues, we find that other issues are more challenging to root cause because of the complexity of other customers' system configurations. In such cases we recommend that these customers refer to the system manufacturer or place of purchase as they are more familiar with their system configurations and of any potential compatibility issues.

We've been communicating the issue once we've discovered it either on the Intel Communities or through Tech Notes on the Intel Support site. In Addition, we have regularly posted updates on Download Center for Wireless Networking – http://support.intel.com/support/wireless/wtech/proset-ws/sb/CS-034041.htm http://support.intel.com/support/wireless/wtech/proset-ws/sb/CS-034041.htm.

Thank you for providing additional information about the issue you are experiencing and we look forward to receiving logs from both Wireshark and our Wireless Reporting tool. Hopefully, this information can lead our engineers down the right direction in looking for a solution to your issue.

We will gladly refund your Intel product. Please refer to the manufacture for warranty requests for non-Intel products. If you wish to head down the "refund" path and or require additional technical assistance please feel free to contact Intel Customer Support at 916-377-7000 and reference your Intel Service Ticket # (service-ticket-number). Of course, you may also contact me and I'll help as best I can; but contacting Intel Customer Support would be the quickest way to obtain support as there are a multitude of people at our call center that can assist. As the holidays are approaching it may be a challenge for me to find engineers available immediately to assist us with your situation.

Here is my sad story about how frustrated I am that I bought a brand new asus laptop and I can't play or use internet with consistency.

I post here to try and grow the number of complaints, as some nights I just want to smash my computer to the ground. This could be a great idea as I would be able to buy a new one being extra careful there is no INTEL hardware in it...

But I don't have the few hundreds euros in front of me.

Having a laptop, I can't replace the wireless card, so I guess I am fucked, cause INTEL is not gonna pay for a new laptop without their faulty hardware, Microsoft won't take any comment on how their 8.1 make so many people losing their mind in front of their pc with those issues, and ASUS will laugh at me saying that it is INTEL fault.

I don't know if you guys know this fun saying: "It is not video games that make people violent, it is lag" here I can relate as not being able to access internet because of a constructor who wont even reply properly to complaints makes me willing to smash my computer on the ground.

That was my 2cents

I've had the same issue with my Samsung series5.

Here is the solution that works for my PING SPIKES:

1) Uninstall wifi card drivers (I strongly suggest that you should download drivers ,before uninstalling current ones, from intel website just in case that something goes wrong)

2) Let windows install default drivers. (for me it was: 15.5.6.48)

3) Disable intel bluetooth devices in hardware manager.

4) Open wifi card settings in hardware manager.

5) Click on advanced

5) Disable 800.11n

6) Disable Wake on pattern

7) Disable that Magic option (I have Polish version of windows so I'm not quite sure how it is called in English. I could translate it to something like this: Resuming based on Magic bundle.)

Worked for my ping spikes. I hope it will help someone.

(PS> My internet speed is 10mbps so i don't know how this would affect users with higher network speed connection)
