Wake-On-WLAN from Soft-off

Dear Community!

Because i haven't got any answers in the available topics, i ask it here. Is there any solution to wake a vpro compatible PC over WLAN? The wifi link is active when the PC is sleep or soft off. I can ping it and I can send the magic packet on it. BUT, the machine is woke up only from sleep. I can't woke it up from soft off (windows 10). With wired connection the WOL is worked any states, so the windows settings are correct, i think.

The machine is a Lenovo Thinkcentre M920q vpro, with Intel Core i5 8500T, and Intel AC9560.

Thank you!

Hello yodee13,

Thank you for posting in Intel Communities.

I just need to set your expectations that we have limited support for OEM laptop devices with Intel components. We can do basic troubleshooting including driver identification and installation however, if we need a deeper checking, you will still be routed to contact your system manufacturer support team.

I would like to know more about your system details to fully understand where the issue truly lies. Please confirm if this is the actual system device that you have: Lenovo M920q Desktop (ThinkCentre) - Type 10RS. Please also share the following:

1) Is this a first-time setup and WoWLAN has not worked before?

2) Can you please share your system configuration so I can fully check and provide you with an accurate fix. This could be possible by downloading the Intel® System Support Utility for Windows* software. When the download is complete, launch SSU.exe.

  • Scan: Check the box Everything.
  • Click Scan.
  • Review: When finished scanning, click Next.
  • Click Save (.txt). *Attach the SSU log file as you reply.

I will wait for your reply.

Hello yodee13,

Thank you for the update.

For Wireless Controller upgrade, you need to contact the manufacturer of the system first for compatibility and configuration.

For more details, please read the article below:

Dear Michael L!

I think You don't understand what i would like to. So I write it down once again. I have an PC (Thinkcentre M920q) with activated AMT features. Everything is work, exepct the Wake-On-WLAN. I can wake it up under http://ipaddress:16992/logon.htm

from any power states. But with magic packet i can wake it up only from sleep (S3), not from any other power state. I want to wake it up from soft-off(S5) as well. I hope I write it correctly and understandable.

Many thanks.

Hello yodee13,

Thank you for the update.

I understand your end goal. However, I am trying to stablish the hardware side of things first before we go to the features and capabilities.

Let me clarify this again, You said that "m.2 wifi and installed it on the board". So you upgraded the new wifi card and installed it in your system by yourself? And also, can you tell me the model of this wireless card?

If you have questions, please let us know. Thank you.

Dear Michael L.

In the PC wasn't have wifi card by factory, only wired lan interface. I have made a research, that which wireless adapter recommended for this PC for vPro. On the official support page there is only one option, the Intel Wireless-AX 9560. So i bought one and installed it. After installing the required drivers the card is succesfully connected to my network, and i can reach the PC by wireless. I can ping it, i can reach the http://ipaddress:16992/logon.htm web page, i can woke it up from AMT web page, and i can woke it up by sending magic packet from my other PC or mobile, but it wokes up only from sleep (S3). It can't woke after i shutdown windows (deep sleep - S5).

Thanks

Hello yodee13,

Thank you for the clarification.

After reading your last reply, the more that I need to refer to the link below which is the same link that I provided before.

First, you need to contact the OEM system manufacturer on how to fully check the compatibility and also the features.

Hello yodee13,

Thank you for the update.

Wake on Lan does not rely on the the controller for it to work. It is also being controlled by the BIOS.

What I have been trying to explain is since you added a wireless card, you need to check first with Lenovo for compatibility and if other features will work. That is why we have the Regulatory link that I shared.

If you have questions, please let us know. Thank you.

Hello yodee13,

Please be advised that S5 depend on the hardware BIOS. (Not all devices support Wireless Wake-on-LAN. Devices that do support Wireless Wake-on-LAN only support wake from system sleep states S3 or S4.)

I highly recommend checking with OEM hardware support if the below Wireless Advanced settings and AMT Wireless settings do not help for this PC hardware.

Please refer below articles for example on how to set it:

1]Configure Wireless Wake-on-LAN in Windows® 10

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000027615/intel-nuc.html

2] Advanced Intel® Wireless Adapter Settings

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000005585/wireless/legacy-intel-wireless-products.html

3] Intel® vPro™ Technology / Intel® Active Management Technology (Intel® AMT) with Wireless Configuration

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000026592/technologies.html

I hope this helps.
