Wi-Fi 6 AX200 160MHz -2.4GHz & 5GHz: connected, no internet access

I've been experiencing wifi issues with my manufacturer installed ax200 wifi card essentially since I got my new Asus Zephyrus G14. Problems initially were fairly intermittent on both 2.4GHz and 5GHz but occasionally I have extended outages. Since then I'd read in some forums to try to use the intel drivers direct from intel, rather than the Asus recommended drivers.

I've gone through a few different wifi drivers (asus recommended driver v21.60.0.5, I'm currently using v21.90.3.2.

With 21.90.3.2, it seems like 2.4GHz is fairly stable but 5GHz is essentially unusable. I'm able to connect to 5GHz but almost immediately when connected it shows "no internet access".

I've tried updating to v21.110.1.1 but this driver fails to install.

Please try a manually clean installation of Intel® Wireless driver version 21.120.0:

I was able to get the v21.110.1.1 driver installed but I'm still having issues with 5GHz.

Now I'm noticing that I'm not getting a valid IP address when I connect to 5GHz. I get a 169.x.x.x IP address but other devices, like my phone, don't have this problem.

I rolled back to the Asus recommended driver that I previously had problems with. For now I'm getting a valid IP address on 2.4GHz & 5GHz. 

I'll update if/when things go bad.

Hi Alberto,

After downgrading to v21.60.0.5, my wifi seemed to be stable on both 2.4GHz and 5GHz.

However, Windows 10 Update forced my AX200 to be updated to v21.90.3.2 and now again I'm experiencing frequent drops on 5GHz, where 5GHz is unusable and I'm forced to use 2.4GHz.

I'd like to use the most up to date intel drivers. Looking through the forum here, it's obvious that there are many problems with AX200 wifi chips & drivers. Is Intel actively working on this?

In order to try to fix the problem with the latest Wireless driver, we can try a clean/manual installation of the latest Intel® Wireless driver version 21.110.1:

Just to let you know, there are no reports about multiple problems with the Intel® Wi-Fi 6 AX200 card or with any other card, in reference to the forums that you verified about problems with it, could you please provide the links on that topic in order for us to be able to see them?

Hi Alberto, 

I again installed v21.110.1 and it's currently working, we'll see how long 5GHz works. As I noted above in my 2nd post, previously 5GHz would regularly fail and show "no internet access".

In regards to the posts I've seen with people experiencing similar issues with the AX200 card on many different systems made by different manufacturers, all you have to do is look here on the Intel Wireless forum, where there are hundreds of posts with people experiencing issues with 5GHz and many more issues:  https://community.intel.com/t5/forums/searchpage/tab/message?advanced=false&allow_punctuation=false&filter=location&location=forum-board:wireless&q=ax200

I could go on and on searching support forums from different manufacturers with laptops that have the ax200 card but I don't have the time and more importantly, I don't understand how you or Intel couldn't be aware of the problems with the AX200 card and it's drivers with the hundreds of posts specifically with the AX 200 here on https://community.intel.com/t5/Wireless/bd-p/wireless

Thank you very much also for providing the links, yes, we can see that there are different cases about issues with the Intel® Wireless card, but most of then are solved by trying different troubleshooting steps or replacing a hardware component that was proved to be defective, none of them are considered by Intel® as a known issue with the Intel® Wi-Fi 6 AX200 card.


Perfect, excellent, it is great to hear that after installing driver version v21.110.1 the Wireless connection so far seems to be working properly.


Please keep monitoring the behavior of the Wireless connection and once you get the chance, let us know the results.

Just to confirm, what is the model of the Router?

Do you have the option to install a sniffer like Wireshark to monitor the network connection and then provide the logs and analysis of that tool?

I've got a pfSense router with multiple WAPs connected to other switches. I've never used Wireshark but if you have a guide you can point me to, I could see if I could get some logs and analysis for you.

My router is a custom pfSense build. There's no brand or model number/name.

I managed to solve very similar disconnection problems with the Intel AX200 and Asus AX88U router with the latest driver updated via Device Properties to v21.110.2.1 (dated July 21, 2020) documented here: https://intel.ly/34tCXGL

Ok, I ran a capture but I don't know how to analyze the capture. What do you want me to do with the data?

BTW, when I go to Wireless LAN Statistics in the referenced 3.13 the "Wireless" Menu, I'm not sure what I'm supposed to see but I don't see anything.

This intel forum won't let me attach the .pcapng capture file from Wireshark.

Hi Alberto, 

I think there was a misunderstanding. As I stated in my previous post, I was able to complete the capture as you'll see in one of my attachments I posted a screencap of part of the capture. 

So the problem isn't that I don't know how to complete the capture, it was that the intel community forum didn't allow me to update the packet capture in a .cap file extension. I assume you want me to zip the capture file, as the Kaspersky website instructs.

Let me know what sense you can make from the packet capture.
