2016 Parallel Studio XE - License activation on a VM

We understand that older product is available when a commercial license/support subscription is acquired.
I believe that installing the older product involved applying a license activation key which I'm assuming is device specific.
Is the licensing mechanism as described and still the same today?

Is that going to work on a VM?

I'm assuming it would be provided as a Named User license, but I wouldn't know how Intel license the product today for new users.
To be clear - we have an internal customer to support who has developed apps with Parallel Studio XE 2016 which they no longer have a license for. They are insisting that they need to be able to continue to develop with that release.
We understand that the product is still available with a commercial license/support subscription.
From personal past experience I vaguely recall that licensing an install might involve generating and applying a machine specific license key.
Q1 - is it licensed that way (still)
Q2 - if so, can a license key be generated when the machine is virtual? (some licensors prohibit this)

Hi Chris,

Thanks for describing the situation and providing the license type. The Named User (single user) license does license does not require manually locking or setting up a specific host's information for usage. That would be the Floating License (multiple user license).

A named-user (single-user) license allows the license owner to install the product on multiple systems belonging to the same user. However, only one copy of the software may be in use by the license owner at any given time.

The Named User license will work on Virtual Machine of a supported operating system. You may refer to the below link for more information on Named User licenses and their installation.
