i960 Model & Max Core Speed...

Is the part/model number & maximum core speed information burned into the processor during manufacture? Is this information something that can be extracted directly, via software interrogation?

For modern Intel processors, you can definitely find what you're looking for with a software utility:

I will try to find someone at Intel who might remember the i960.

In the meantime, you might be able to find the information marked physically on the chip. See page 9 of this manual:

The issue here is one of possible counterfeit components (part number marked possibly misrepresenting maximum core speed). What I'd like to do is to be able to load these i960 processors on an ATE machine... have some software that reads the Intel part number from the processor. That way, the die could be reconciled with the external markings. I assume this can be done?

Poking around 1-2 of the manuals in the list I gave you, I came across references to registers that hold your desired info, so it seems it should be possible. If you have that register detail, can you program your ATE to fetch it, or are you looking for an off-the-shelf utility ?

No, I certainly don't expect an off-the-shelf utility to do this. I just wanted to find out if this was possible...
