How to resolve battling graphic driver update versions?

My Lenovo Thinkpad P53 includes Intel® UHD Graphics 630, of which the current version is 31.0.101.2121. However, Windows 11's update keeps overwriting this driver with a much older version from several years ago.

How can I keep the newer Intel-supplied driver and stop Windows from constantly overwriting the newer driver with its older driver? And why is Intel not providing this newer update to Microsoft?

Hello DLE

Thank you for posting on the Intel Communities. I am sorry you are experiencing issues when trying to update your graphics driver to the latest version.

The reason why this happens is that Windows will offer and prioritize the latest version of the driver offered by your system manufacturer over the generic version and the way they get identified by the Operating System is different.

In order to fix this issue, please do the following:

  1. Access Device Manager page then select the Intel® Graphics under display adapter.
  2. Right Click the graphics adapter and select properties.
  3. Go to the Driver tab and select Update driver.
  4. Select Browse my computer for drivers, then select Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer.
  5. In the box that lists your graphics drivers, select the latest Intel® Arc Graphics Driver  or Intel® Graphics – Windows* DCH Driversfor example, version 31.0.101.2121(if you do not see the version, the latest one should be the first result that shows us from top to bottom) then click Next. It will apply the driver version by reinstalling the .inf file.
  6. Reboot computer for the changes to take effect.

The above steps should override the old version from your system manufacturer and should allow the Operating System to keep the latest generic version.
