Intel Drivers Requiring Additional Installation

Hi Community,

Have a issue with numerous drivers that state they 'requiring additional installation'.

I believe the situation may have happened after the latest Intel Driver & Support Assistant tool updated on 2024-09-13.

Being pretty tech savvy, reviewed numerous Microsoft & Intel support forums looking for solutions since I inadvertantly stumbled across these warning, trying to solve why my processor fan speed has intermittently decided to go into warp speed 🙂 🙂

I have completed all the recommended OS troubleshooting steps many times. The laptop system is up to date as of this post, no virus/malware detected, temporary files and cache cleared, memory diagnosis tool ran no issues, bios reinstalled.

Last week I removed and reinstalled the latest Intel driver per Intel site; gfx_win_101.2130. Still no resolution.

Yesterday I was about to re-install the last offical chipset update from the HP site, which would be a down step back to HP Intel Management Engine Interface (MEI) Driver - Kabylake- Aug 2022 and then saw the chat option from the Intel site, after chatting with & email conversations with a couple of reps, there is no interactive technical support for Intel® HD Graphics 610 as it has been discontinued, I was told to post this info here.

Did you install the Chipset Device Software package before installing any other Intel driver packages? If not, start again...

Hi Scott, thanks for your reply, 

Since the Intel Driver & Support Assistant software automatically scans my system and performs these updates, I "assume" that it would have removed the previous chipset and drivers in order to update properly & correctly!?? I now see that on Oct 30th 2024 Intel(R) Arc Software & Drivers version 1.0.951.0 and Intel(R) Computing Improvement Program version 2.4.10888 was installed? The Intel(R) Chipset Device Software and other Intel drivers are dated Sept 13th 2023.

Would it be advisable for me to remove all the current Intel chipset & drivers and the Intel Driver & Support Assistant software and then install the last official chipset & drivers from the HP website and then let Windows update?

No. You can over-install with the chipset device software package from HP. Instead of double-clicking on the executable, open a command or powershell window and execute the package with command ".\SetupChipset.exe -overall".

I unpacked HP driver pack 'SP110054' to a folder and before I could attempt the powershell window install option, I got the error message; "the driver is not supported on this OS version (10.0.19045)."  Is there a next course of action?

What OS are you running. Wait, don't answer that. Instead, please download and run the Intel System Support Utility for Windows. When you start the utility, select Everything and then click on Scan. Once it completes the scan process, click on Next and then Save. Pick a name for the text file to create and click on Save to create it. You can then close the app. Finally, open a response post here and then, using the Drag and drop here or browse files to attach dialog (below the edit box for the body of your response post), upload and attach this text file to the response post.

Ok, so here's what I see from the report:

• You are NOT running the latest BIOS for your laptop. Version F.75-A is available on the HP site.
• Graphics driver is latest for HD Graphics 610.
• You have a Wireless-AC 7265-D part and the Wireless driver is the latest.
• You haven't installed the Intel Bluetooth driver. If you are using Bluetooth, you should install this as the generic Bluetooth drivers from Microsoft don't work very well with Intel adapters.
• You have the latest (Build 19045) updates for Windows 10 installed. Despite this, the (Microsoft-supplied) processor drivers (including IntelPPM.sys), the Storage driver and the Camera driver are all showing as being from build 19041?
• Your Realtek Audio drivers are out of date. You have v6.0.1.8261 from 2017. The latest on the HP site is v6.0.8940.1 from 2020.

So, did you ever install the Intel Chipset Device Software package (HP calls this the "Intel Chipset Installation Utility and Driver - Braswell" (and poorly describes what it does); the latest version is 10.1.17861.810)? If not (or you used an older version - oh heck, do this anyway), here's what I want you to do:

1. Download the executable from the HP site (here's link to downloads page: https://support.hp.com/bg-en/drivers/hp-pavilion-15-br000-x360-convertible-pc/15551167; open the Driver-Chipset section and download the version detailed above). Do not execute the downloaded file.
2. Create a temporary folder using Windows File Manager. Keep the File Manager window open.
3. Open the executable using an UNZIP tool (If you don't have one, I use 7-Zip, which is free and you can download from here: 7-zip.org).
4. Select all files and folders and drag them from the UNZIP window and into the temporary folder window you kept open in Step 2.
5. Open a Command Window and use the CD (CHDIR) command to change the current directory (folder) to the temporary folder you created.
6. Execute command ".\SetupChipset.exe -overall".
7. Reboot when this command is done.
8. You can delete the temporary folder and the downloaded executable.

Once that is all done, manually run Windows Update and install everything identified (including optional downloads).

Now how does everything look?

This completely blows my mind!!! I have no idea why these drivers would not have been found as outdated and the newest/latest versions updated by the respected companies automated update software/hardware tools?

QUESTION: why then would these not have been discovered when I select update driver in Device Manager, Windows Update as part of my numerous basic troubleshooting steps?

Regarding:

- Both the official HP PC Hardware Diagnostics and the HP Support Assistant tools state that my laptop has the most current BIOS??? LOL

• Graphics driver is latest for HD Graphics 610.

- Okay Check.

• You have a Wireless-AC 7265-D part and the Wireless driver is the latest.

- Check.

• You haven't installed the Intel Bluetooth driver. If you are using Bluetooth, you should install this as the generic Bluetooth drivers from Microsoft don't work very well with Intel adapters.

- The Intel Driver Support Assistant tool indicates that this laptop is currently up-to-date with all the latest Intel required driver??? LOL

• You have the latest (Build 19045) updates for Windows 10 installed. Despite this, the (Microsoft-supplied) processor drivers (including IntelPPM.sys), the Storage driver and the Camera driver are all showing as being from build 19041?

- maybe this one is a gitch in the MATRIX... Again LOL no idea why this wouldn't have been updated as part of the newest Win 10 build updates?

- Control Panel/Program and Features are showing that v6.0.1.8261 was updated on 7/25/2024

• So, did you ever install the Intel Chipset Device Software package (HP calls this the "Intel Chipset Installation Utility and Driver - Braswell" (and poorly describes what it does); the latest version is 10.1.17861.810)?

- No! I just let the respected support & update tools to run and abide by what they state as the driver is the lastest or currently up-to-date.

Hmmm.... I have no idea why we should be generating different results for the same HP laptop model; HP Pavilion x360 - 15-br020ca? Can you please send me a few screenshots of the first few steps you are doing in order to find these updates?

Hi Scott,

I figured out why you were getting different updates from mine, I see the model number that shows in the Intel System Support Utility report { System Model:"HP Pavilion x360 Convertible 15-br0xx" }  is not the actual specific model ID to mine [ HP Pavilion x360 - 15-br020ca ]. 

So the obvious question is, will those updates be viable for my device?

When you see "br0xx", this means any system that starts with "br0". Now, in a case like this, it will mean that drivers (and BIOS releases) specific to certain specific models may be included, but when we talk about Intel generic driver packages, they should apply. Touch wood. If they're not, I don't think they will hurt if you try.

Yes touch wood. I have downloaded all the updates and I'll see if the BIOS will accept that update version first before proceeding on the steps you provided earlier. Let you know outcome. Cheers again Scott.

Hey Scott, installed the BIOS successfully, checked for updates (only the normal anti-virus/mal updates were present), then completed the chipset install as per your directions. When the Intel installation main diologue box popped up, it stated that a newer verison was already installed do I want to preceed with downgrading... which I did and rebooted successfully. Manually completed Windows Update and there were no updates. No driver conflicts in Device Manager, however this did not solve the issue as all the drivers stated initially are still showing 'additional installation required'.

Should I now run the Intel Driver Support Assistant?

I have no idea what is going on here. What version of Windows are you installing? Windows 11 24H2? How did you prepare the installation media?

What "Intel installation main dialog" are you referring to? The Chipset Device Software package? If so, in my many hundreds (yes, literally) of installations of Windows 10 and Windows 11 that I have done, I have *never* *ever* seen it say it needed to downgrade. 

It seems to me that you are doing something else that you are not mentioning. At this point, you should not have installed any other driver or software packages; the Chipset Device Software package should be the first.
