Significant FPS Drop in Valorant After Latest Intel Arc Driver Update

Dear Intel Arc Support Team,

I am reaching out regarding an issue I’ve encountered with my Intel Arc A750 graphics card following the recent driver update. Prior to this update, I consistently achieved nearly 300 FPS while playing Valorant. However, after updating to the latest driver version, my frame rates have noticeably dropped to less than 200 FPS, which has significantly impacted my gaming experience.

I have double-checked my system settings, in-game configurations, and hardware connections, but the issue persists, indicating it may be directly related to the latest driver update. Given the extent of this FPS drop, I kindly request that you look into this matter and provide guidance on any potential optimizations or patches that could restore the previous performance levels.

Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your prompt response and assistance in resolving this issue.

Hi Zayed1,

Thank you for posting in the community. To help investigate, please answer these questions:

  1. What driver version were you using before updating?
  2. Did you select "clean installation" when updating your graphics driver?
  3. Are you currently using driver version 101.6130?
  4. Do other games, like Counter-Strike, also have low FPS, or is it just Valorant?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out. Here are my answers to your questions:

  1. I was using version 101.6129.
  2. Yes, I did perform a clean installation.
  3. Yes, I am currently using the latest driver.
  4. I do not play CS, unfortunately, but I've recently noticed FPS drops in other games. For instance, I reinstalled Red Dead Redemption (1) to achieve 100% completion. I didn't encounter any issues with the game on older drivers, but lately, I've been experiencing FPS drops while playing.

Regards,
Zayed.

Hi Zayed1,

Thanks for answering my questions. Do you remember the driver you used before updating to the latest version? Then, can you play Valorant and use CapframeX to capture the FPS data? Then, roll back to the previous driver version before you update your driver, play again, and capture the data with CapframeX.

You may follow this instruction for the installation and data capturing: https://community.intel.com/t5/Intel-ARC-Graphics/Need-help-Reporting-a-bug-or-issue-with-Arc-GPU-PLEASE-READ-THIS/td-p/1494429

Hello,
Sorry, I don't remember which driver I was using before the latest update. Currently, I am using 101.6130, I am getting very low FPS honestly, sometimes the game stutters too.

Thank you.

Do I require to attach a video file of the latest driver gameplay?

Besides, I think intel should release a driver dedicated for Valorant as this game is played by many on competitive level.
Thank you.

Your 'many' is an insignificant blip when compared to the size of the overall market.

Hi Zayed1,

No worries. Can you run CapframeX using the 6130 driver version and send the results in this thread? After that, please do a clean installation using Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) and install the 6297 driver version. Then, generate another CapframeX while playing Valorant and include a screenshot of your game settings as well.

Just an update, updating to 6297 made it worse, been facing more FPS drops, sometimes while strafing my FPS drops below 100, and causes frame skips.

Hi Zayed1,

Thanks for this. One more thing could you also include the General tab in the graphics settings so I can see your configuration, including the resolution? Additionally, please provide the exact model of your monitor and the current refresh rate you are using.

Also, to better understand your entire system information, please use the System Support Utility (SSU). This will generate a text file that compiles all your system information. You can follow this link for instructions and send the text file here. How to get the Intel® System Support Utility Logs on Windows.

Also, please confirm if the Resizable Bar is enabled on your bios and the CSM is disabled?

Hello,

Here are the screenshots as requested.
Yes, my Re-Bar is on and CSM is disabled, my monitor supports 165Hz, but on the older drivers, I used to get high +300 FPS in Valorant, I used to even get +1000 FPS in agent selection lobby, but it dropped to 600 FPS now.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Hi Zayed1,

Thanks for sharing this to me, though the general settings that I was inquiring was on the Valorant itself. As for the System Support Utility, would it be alright if you send the text file of the logs?

Hi Zayed1,

Thanks for answering my question. That is correct, I have all the details now and will further investigate this matter. However, upon checking the CapframeX data again, it seems that the data was captured for only 56 seconds. If possible, could you try to record an entire game so I can accurately analyze and compare the data on my end.

Hello,
Recently I started to get 230-240 FPS on average which is quite better than before after updating to the new driver, but there are some instances where the FPS drops to 180-190, Like on the older drivers, I was able to get 300+ FPS on average.
Thank you.

Hello Zayed1,

Thank you for your patience. I have tested the game on my system and replicated the issue based on your specifications and game settings. I have a few questions and suggestions for you:

  1. Have you tried playing in Fullscreen mode instead of Windowed? If yes, can you tell me how the performance is in Fullscreen mode?
  2. Is your motherboard BIOS currently up to date?
  3. In the past few days, have you tried performing a clean installation and using driver version 101.6319? If yes, did you notice any improvement in performance?

This time, let's try updating the graphics driver to the latest 32.0.101.6325 WHQL version. Please let me know how the performance is after this update, and don't forget to check the "clean installation" box during the custom installation.

Hello,

1. I have played in Fullscreen mode instead of Windowed, but I do face the same issue, significant FPS drops.
2. Yes, my BIOS is up to date.
3. Even installing the latest version, I do face FPS drops, like the other day, while playing, an enemy spawned in front of me and my FPS dropped suddenly to 160 -/+.

Thank you.

Hello Zayed1,

Thanks for answering the question. This time, could you try lowering your Anti-Aliasing to the lowest setting and set the Anisotropic Filtering to 1x? Also, before changing the settings, please run another CapframeX test using the latest driver and your current in-game settings. After that, perform another test with the settings I suggested.
