why is the new Quartus prime lite edition not with a model sim and why can't I generate a university or model sim waveform in the lite edition? I am a lab assistant at the university of Huddersfield, and I used the 20.1 lite edition to do that but having problem using 21.1 lite edition to accomplish it. keeps given an error
** Error: Invalid license environment. Application closing.

Well, as of v21.1 Quartus switched to using the Questa simulator, the big brother as it were to Modelsim.
Modelsim per se is deprecated. Likely a new license needs to be issued to use Questa, your old Modelsim license won't work.
If you want/need to use Modelsim you must use v20.1 Quartus or earlier.

Quartus 21.1 Lite edition comes with Questa*-Intel® FPGA Edition and Questa*-Intel® FPGA Starter Edition software. You will need to generate a license for them to use.
