Video tutorial on how to deploy Intel EMA?

Hello,

I need to deploy VPro (KVM Console) using Intel EMA.

I've been trying to find a video tutorial without success.

I was wondering is there a video tutorial available?

If not, can you share what newbie resources are available?

Thank you.

Hello Miguel,

The second install succeeded. Yay!

I'll have a look at configuring EMA later.

Some feedback on the resources.

Very grateful for your assistance.

In terms of the videos etc., I used the videos that you shared here

Intel EMA Overview and Setup

Overall they're quite good. Concise and informative.

However, there are a couple of issues.

The installation demo is not current (it talks about obsolete versions of Windows and Windows Server). Ideally, the video should be updated.

If not, there should be some prominent notes clarifying the current software platforms supported and noting the database requirements (see next).

My one criticism of the installation demo, is that the database requirements are not properly or clearly explained during the demo. I wasted time in the setup because of this.

The database part of the installation video should say that you need to specify an accessible SQL Server installation (either local or remote) and that the EMA installer will create the database on the nominated SQL Server host (the fact that the EMA Installer would create the database was not clear to me).

Thanks again for your help.

Hello, VeeDub,

The videos are available in the article below. It explains how to install Intel® EMA and configure it for remote access (types and requirements).

In addition, I am sending the latest version of the software. In the zip file (document folder) you will find the Intel® EMA Server Installation and Maintenance Guide PDF.

Hello,

The EMA server deployment video says that Server 2012, 2014 and 2016 are supported.

I am wondering if this is an older video, can I also deploy to Server 2019?

Thanks

Hello,

I've established that I can use Server 2019.

Is there a guide on how to setup the SQL Server database?

I'm happy to use SQL Express on the same machine as the Intel EMA. We will have less than 100 hosts.

Thanks

Hello,

Installing SQL Express and SSMS is straight-forward.

I've followed this video to setup the database https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gOymj3ezceI

Hopefully EMA will install OK.

The Intel videos are quite good, but assuming that the end-user will know how to configure SQL is silly.

Setting up SQL Express should have been included, and sure you can include a disclaimer that it's not best-practice yada-yada-yada.

Without the database setup you can't deploy, so the steps to create a working configuration should have been included.

Hello, VeeDub,

Please provide me with more feedback about your new EMA installation.

The current OS version of the EMA server.

Current SQL version and if it was created in the same EMA server machine.  If not, location and OS version.

Are the EMA Swarm, Manageability, Ajax, Web, and Recovery servers on the same machine?

Please make sure the Windows Server OS is up to date as well as the database.

Finally, share a full installation log.  The location of it is [System drive]\EMALog-Intel EMAInstaller.txt

Hello, VeeDub,

Thank you for sharing the installer log and the answer to my questions.

I found an error in the log.

IIS not installed or no access rights to IIS websites.

It is necessary to create a website for EMA in your Windows Server 2019.  This is a third-party component and needs to be configured with your specifications.

I am sending the Microsoft creation explanation.

Create a Web Site

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/iis/get-started/getting-started-with-iis/create-a-web-site

The SQL software is a third-party product, and its installation is associated with the security of the company.  Intel provides the option to create the EMA database automatically or set the communication between EMA and the custom database.

I am sending the Microsoft recommendations:

SQL Server installation guide

Hello, VeeDub,

Bear in mind the database and the Website need to be created before the EMA installation. During the installation, EMA collects their configuration.

Hello Miguel,

The logs are wrong, IIS is already installed.

And the Default Web site already exists.

If I am required to create a Web site, what are the details, does the Web site require a particular name?

Creating a Web site was not a step in the video on how to deploy EMA.

Hello Miguel,

The EMA installer looks to have made a mess of the setup.

I tried to do an un-install and see picture below.

If I then try to install again, the existing installation is detected and then the installation immediately fails.

How do I nuke the existing installation manually?

Hello Miguel,

Also fyi I don't see an option for Intel EMA to create the database automatically as part of the install.

I would have preferred that option, as that means that the database will be created correctly for EMA, which is another step which is not covered in the EMA Install and Configure video which you have shared (or at least not in the video which I watched).

The Youtube page has a stack of videos, if there is one in there which you think is relevant, please advise and I will review.

Hello Miguel,

Have tried to uninstall as per screenshot

I also tried deleting the EMA database that I had created via SSMS, which deleted the database, but did not resolve the installer uninstall errors.

Hello, VeeDub,

I reviewed the posts, and my suggestions are below.

It is necessary to have IIS installed into the server machine and SQL software.

Intel® EMA creates the database while doing the installation, only the PDF guide shows the process.

Intel® Endpoint Management Assistant (Intel® EMA) version 1.11.1

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/download/19449/intel-endpoint-management-assistant-intel-ema.html

Unzip the package and open the file called: Intel® EMA Server Installation and Maintenance Guide.

Sections 2.0 to 2.2.1.9 Installing or Updating the Intel® EMA Server; they provide pictures of the installation.

Hello Miguel,

I need to remove the existing installation before I can attempt a re-install.

SQL and IIS were already installed prior to the previous installation.

Hello, VeeDub,

IIS is already set in your server; we can reuse it.  The database that you created for EMA in SQL needs to be erased from SQL software. You need to use SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS).
