DE1-SoC UART Reciever

Hi,

I'm new to FPGA's, and have been going through some example projects on my DE1-SoC board to self teach. Currently I'm looking to build a UART receiver that will take in data from a keyboard press, and then display the value on the 7 segment displays of the board (I'm using this video for reference https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vh0KdoXaVgU)

I have issues actually getting the UART RX be assigned to a pin / interact with the 7 segment display.  I've already done the example lessons from intel (my-first-HPS), and from my understanding the UART is apart of the HPS. I've tried playing around with Qsys a bit, but with not much luck, and I'm not sure how to integrate this with the rest of my project.

Does anyone have any guidance on how to approach this? Any help is appreciated!
