How to set the country code to US in AX210 which is running on Ubuntu 21.04

Hi,

We have brought up a dell laptop which has Intel AX210 card with Ubuntu OS running 21.04 release and has 5.11.0-31-generic. The first problem was that the wireless card was not coming up because of iwlwifi-ty-a0-gf-a0.pnvm . We removed the file after which able to bringup the interface. Now we are unable to set the country code to US either via "iw reg set" command or via crda file. By default it picks up country based on scanning information .

Posting this question to find out if there is any other way to set the country code to US? If I place the laptop in Isolated place by having only 1 AP seen with US country code then the interface is able to pick the country code and scan through 6Ghz Channels.

Note : For now only FCC supports 6E channels so to test that we need to set the Country code to US in client.

OS information:

Hi Alberto,

Thanks for extending support. Please find attached output file created by running ssu.sh .

Actually it threw error that operating system is not supported. I continued with "y" to scan the system and collect information.

Please let me know for anyother info required.

Vivektrivedi, You are very welcome, thank you very much for providing that information and the SSU report.

In order for us to provide the most accurate assistance on this matter, we just wanted to confirm a few details about your system:

Is this a new computer?

Was it working fine before?

When did the issue start?

Did you make any recent hardware/software changes?

The wireless card, did you purchased it separately or did it came installed on the computer?

By any chance, do you know the wireless driver currently installed in your laptop? For some reason that information is not showing in the SSU report.

Does the problem happen at home or in the work environment?

Albert, please find comments inline below.

In order for us to provide the most accurate assistance on this matter, we just wanted to confirm a few details about your system:

Is this a new computer?

<Vivek> Yes, it is a new Dell laptop with AX210 Card available by default. I have attached lspci, lshw and modinfo iwlwifi for refrence.

Was it working fine before?

<Vivek> In previous generations of intel products, we could set the country code using iw reg set command. But currently we are unable to set the country code. FYI, I want to use 6Ghz channels but it is currently supported only in US country code and not in IN. So i need a provision to change the country code .

When did the issue start?

Did you make any recent hardware/software changes?

<Vivek> I upgraded ubuntu version and also kernel to 5.11.0.34 which supports AX210 firmware.

The wireless card, did you purchased it separately or did it came installed on the computer?

<Vivek> It came with the laptop.

By any chance, do you know the wireless driver currently installed in your laptop? For some reason that information is not showing in the SSU report.

<Vivek> I'm not sure on how to check the driver version. Attached modinfo of iwlwifi for your reference.

Does the problem happen at home or in the work environment?

<Vivek> Any place . This issue is specific to country code setting in laptop for 6Ghz support.

Regards,

Vivek

Hi

I've got same problem on setting 6GHz Wi-Fi.

Could you let me know how to set the country code to US on AX210 operating in Ubuntu 21.04 (Kernel 5.11.0-16-generic) ?

FYI,

I've also tried  "iw reg set US", but phy#0 still shows country code KR. (with all 6GHz frequencies disabled)

Thank you in advance

Regards,

Sol

It´s not possible to set the country as a user by design. Country selection is purely done by firmware. The regulatory db (which bands are allowed / which TX power and so on) is also embeeded in the firmware itself. It can only be updated by Intel.

The firmware image is obviously signed, so no way to change it easily..
