Intel 8265 fails to detect any Access Points

I have an AC8265 card running 20.70.7.1 driver installed in my Lenovo P52 laptop. Lately I'll be in the middle of a video conference and it just ends. When I click on 'Networks' in the connection panel the card doesn't see ANY wireless APs/Routers.

It's like I'm in a screen room (I know there are at least 15-20 APs in the area). I try turning Wi-Fi on and off a bunch of times, and eventually it gets it's brains back, sees all of the APs, and connects. Is anyone else seeing this issue? Happens a couple of times a day now.

Hello Cde G, Thank you for posting on the Intel Community. I understand that your wireless adapter cannot detect any network/access point available, please try the following troubleshooting steps: 1. Clean installation using the driver from the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) since they have customized the drivers to properly work with their systems. Here’s the link of the drivers provided by the OEM of your laptop: https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-p-series-laptops/thinkpad-p52-type-20m9-20ma/downloads Please check this link that will show you how to perform the Clean Installation of Wireless Drivers: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000022173/network-and-i-o/wireless-networking.html 2. If by following the prior step the issue persists, try a clean installation with the Intel Generic driver. Here’s the download link for your wireless adapter. Make sure you install the one for your operating system (OS). Link: https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark/products/94150/intel-dual-band-wireless-ac-8265.html 3. Try to make sure the WLAN is enabled in the BIOS. If the issue persists, please provide the following information: 1. Is this the wireless adapter that originally came with the laptop, or is this an integration? 2. What is the Operating System that you’re using? 3. Make sure you have the latest OS version and build. Hope this helps, Oscar A. Intel Customer Support Technician Under Contract to Intel Corporation

Hello Oscar,  Unfortunately,  bowing away the laptop (and all associated data) is not possible. The system is very new and has never been opened or had the wireless card tampered with. The OS is Windows 10 and regularly receives updates from Microsoft.  Regarding the BIOS,  I would assume that Wi-Fi is turned on sice it works most of the time.  The current driver is 20.70.7.1 It looks like these cards (Intel AC8265) have other issues as well (WiFi hotspot fails). For example we have several P52 Lenovo laptops like this one,  and none of them will accept a WiFi connection to its mobile Hotspot from a Samsung J337. We've tried several J337s which connect fine to other WiFi hotspots and APs. Other wifi phones will connect to the Thinkpad hotspots. -Just a really buggy card.  Intel should try testing this crap before they ship it!!!  Sent from Yahoo Mail on Android On Thu, May 9, 2019 at 8:51 AM, Intel Forums<supportreplies@intel.com> wrote: @media screen and ( _filtered_a ){#yiv5466405210 html {}#yiv5466405210 table.yiv5466405210container {width:100% !important;}#yiv5466405210 .yiv5466405210hidden-for-mobile {display:none !important;}#yiv5466405210 .yiv5466405210callToAction, #yiv5466405210 .yiv5466405210callToAction td, #yiv5466405210 .yiv5466405210footer {font-size:12px !important;}#yiv5466405210 .yiv5466405210button .yiv5466405210text {font-size:12px !important;}#yiv5466405210 .yiv5466405210defaultIndentation {width:10 !important;}#yiv5466405210 .yiv5466405210text {font-size:12px !important;}#yiv5466405210 a.yiv5466405210button {width:96 !important;}#yiv5466405210 a.yiv5466405210buttonWide {width:118 !important;}#yiv5466405210 a.yiv5466405210buttonAuto {padding-left:1em !important;padding-right:1em !important;}#yiv5466405210 a.yiv5466405210button, #yiv5466405210 a.yiv5466405210buttonWide, #yiv5466405210 a.yiv5466405210buttonAuto {min-height:23 !important;line-height:23px !important;border-radius:4px !important;}#yiv5466405210 td.yiv5466405210buttonWrapper {width:98 !important;min-height:23 !important;}#yiv5466405210 img {display:inline !important;}#yiv5466405210 .yiv5466405210circle {border-radius:50%;}#yiv5466405210 .yiv5466405210square {border-radius:10%;}}@media screen and ( _filtered_a ){#yiv5466405210 table.yiv5466405210container {width:600px !important;}}@media screen { _filtered #yiv5466405210 {font-family:'Salesforce Sans';font-style:normal;}#yiv5466405210 #yiv5466405210 a, #yiv5466405210 a:visited {color:#015BA7;text-decoration:none;}#yiv5466405210 img {display:block;}#yiv5466405210 .yiv5466405210preheader {display:none !important;}#yiv5466405210 table {border-collapse:collapse;}Hello Cde G,Thank you for posting on the Intel Community.I understand that your wireless adapter cannot detect any network/access point available, please try the following troubleshooting steps:1. Hello Cde G, Thank you for the information provided. Since you installed the latest driver provided by the laptop's manufacturer and the Intel generic driver, please contact the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) for further assistance, it might be a hardware issue. Also, regarding the connection between the laptop and the Samsung* J337 please check the OEM as well to see if there's any compatibility issue. Regards, Oscar A. Hello Oscar,

Regarding the statement: " please contact the (OEM) for further assistance, it might be a hardware issue." I don't really get how that could be the case since the Intel card IS the hardware. Unless you're saying it's a bad socket? In which case it would be bad sockets or motherboards on all of the P50s and PP52? This same card often fails to see any of the APs in the room, and to be honest the last couple of Intel NICs I've used were so bad (different models) that I've had to toss them and replace with Atheros. I will check with Samsung though, and get back to you.

Hello Oscar, I did indeed reply back. Not sure why you’re not seeing my response. To reiterate, Samsung is saying this is definitely an Intel Issue (essentially both sides are pointing at one another, instead of someone opening OmniPeek or QXDM, and taking a look at the air logs). I know in the past I’ve gone through similar months long go-rounds with Intel where the end solution was always to install an Atheros card. Thanks. Best regards, Chris de Grasse

Hello Cde G, Thank you for the information provided. In this case, since the system you have was built by Lenovo* and you have already performed the steps from our side, please contact them for a possible workaround or to provide feedback about the behavior you're experiencing. Regarding the issue with Samsung*, it might be just a compatibility issue between both systems, I'd also recommend you to provide the feedback to your system manufacturer. Best regards, Oscar A.
